I've had TAW for ages, but never spent much time on it - just flew around a bit and looked at the pretty graphics!

I would be interested to hear any comments you might have about TAW - good or bad. I know it's not 'hardcore' like F4 or F2, but how does it play - campaigns, immersion, that kind-of-thing! My impression is that it's a kind-of jet version of EECH.

Any comments appreciated!

Well Peter,
I have had TAW sitting beside F4,EF2000 V2 etc for approx 2years now.
The campaign is *huge* (been playing it for about 6months,obviously not every day
The mission planner is IMHO better than F4's in that you can change the loadout of support flights/weapons ie. SEAD,Escort,Strike 2 individualy-unlike F4's.
Change what planes to support you F-15/A-10's etc.and assign individual targets to *all* strike aircraft.
you can also "call up" target info in flight(although not real-it helps re-fresh the memory after say a heated dogfight
The ground war is not as good as F4's although if you fly the AWACS you will see the EWR,SAM sites getting knocked out-so clearing a path for deeper strikes.
It certainly has a wonderful "big picture" and you do feel like you are makeing an impact on the enemy's resources-time being the crucial factor here.
By following the correct strategy(as in the Gulf war's 5 ring process)P27 of the manual,it will immerse you immensly into the way a great commander sets about cippling an opposing threat Knocking out the enemies AWACS/EWR GCI *does* leave the enemy blind so that when you go in or vector a strike(via AWACS) onto a ground target-by going in stealthy you will not be detected
"Like threading a needle".
To be honest this is just the surface of what is a fantastic game! The best alongside F4 and EF2000.
I regularly play the AWACS like a game of "Chess"! Sit back vectoring flights here there everywhere.....then jump in for a killer strike lol.
But you have to put some serious hours of gameplay into it to get/see the rewards?

I just bought TAW myself. I've always wanted to play it but back-burnered it for other games. EF2000 has always been one of my favorite sims but now it's hard to get it to run with modern hardware.

I've loaded it up and flew a few training flights. The graphics are wonderful. I'm looking forward to spending some time with this one. The manaul looks to be just as fun as the game.

Regards

Good comments above -- I agree, TAW is a very cool and underrated sim, even if not as hardcore as F4 or JF18 (there is a certain amount of imagination in simulating a complex system not even in service -- but some of the "arcade-like" feel is said to be based on the much higher degree of automation planned for this jet -- the real F22 is supposed to be very easy to fly and fight!). All that aside, there are still a lot of tactical and strategic issues to handle -- and a lot of fun.

I contributed a multi-page "play guide" on TAW to MiGMan's Flight Sim Museum. You might take a look -- it covers a lot of ground including 1v1 guns (padlock etc) and tips on an AWACS training mission. http://www.migman.com.au/ref/simhis/TAW/TAW.htm
DID-US had a site with good campaign tips, but the site went off the air just recently.

Good to hear it!

It just requires lots of hours of input to *fully* enjoy it

Here's another link: http://www.primocom.com/TAW/
