What is the life expectancy of a MiG-21? How many more hours can this thing do? 2343 landings?! ZEESH!

One thing's for sure, crossing off the VooDoo5 5500 off my "must have" wish list Now if I could only find an F-4E Phantom to compliment this beauty in the garage.

How much you think it'd cost? If Hertz would pull their head out of their arses and look into renting MiG-21s instead of putting aroma therapy candles in LTDs...well...they'd have a customer for life

You can figure one landing for every 2-3 hours of flight time. Most of the A-10s in service today (which I work) have over 3,500 landing. Of course the runways in the eastern block or not in as good as shape as ours. This mig has quite a few more hour left in her. I would love to see it and an F-4E play a little game of tag at air show near me, I would be there!

Your '1 landing per 2-3 hours flight time' is OK for the A-10, but not the 21.

Considering the short legs of the MiG, 2300 landings in 1400 hours is about right.

Assuming that a Mig will have the same lifespan as an American fighter is a BIG mistake. Migs aren't built to last the way our fighters are; that's a theme running through all articles I've read on the subject. The extra durability of our planes makes them MUCH more expensive, and the Soviets/Russians took a more 'cost-effective' approach. That's why 'Topgun' declined to buy Mig-29's from the Germans-they would've worn out too quickly.
