What is the best way to shut off or deal with the "new hardware" check that Win 98 does.
I wanted to add a second sound card so I could point Roger Wilco through my headset while the sounds of my games come through my speakers. This has worked very nicely. Great for realism, except my wife can't hear who I am talking to, so she assumes I'm talking to myself...
Whenever Win 98 comes up, it sees things on the second sound card that I don't want it to use. Game port, Midi stuff, Mic line ect. everything works the way I planed when I simply cancel through all of the "new hardware" every time I boot, but this becomes a pain.
I have tried checking the "disable in this configuration" box, but that doesn't seem to work permantly. It askes me again when I reboot. I have considered giving them a bogus driver, but that doesn't seem like the right thing to do eather.
Does anyone have any sugjestions?
