After putting a Rage 3D card in my P II 4000, doubling RAM to 256 MB and creating a 400 MB swap file, I'm running B-17 II and love it. No CTDs, screens load pretty well, great action.

The question is:

What is it?

It's not a flight sim per se. though it was touted as one. I think Hasbro/Microprose/ shot themselves in the foot in their ads.

Article will follow.

It's a role-playing game. Unfortunately, without multiplayer/online support, against whom do you play?

Great question. It's a role-playing game, sure. But I think I'd call it a combat simulation....as it has a lot more in common with squad-level RTS games than any flight sim I've ever played. I have yet to master that damned Norden bombsight.
Rushing a formation of Forts in a Fw190 is quite fun, however.

It's also very addictive, and a great historical perspective on what those guys, now all old men, went through. Incredible.

I am almost ready to make the plunge into B17 II now that the patch is released and now I know that it is more a strategic combat simulation instead of flight sim.
