It started with a cdmag article about EA, the demise of Looking Glass, and the
cancellation of Attack Squadron. Scharmers, a regular at csipgf-s rants on the current
state of hardcore gaming in general:

Vitriol? What vitriol? It's not worth the anger, anymore.
I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that gaming is now
aimed squarely at the mainstream retards. That any Holy Grail of
simming goodness is going to be smacked down in favor of
massively-multiplayer cookie-cutout "role-playing" games, RTS
clones, Yet Another Shoot **** Up FPS, and consoles.

Let's look at the happiness we've seen in the last few weeks,
shall we?

- LGS dies. That alone right there makes me literally sick to
my stomach.
- Gunship! is released in a totally despicable state, and isn't
going to get patched. Trust me on this.
- Tank Platoon! is ditched. Gee, big surprise there. Hasbro
doesn't care.
- Attack Squadron gets nuked by EA. What, you didn't believe
the EA ...... when they said that they wanted to move away from
boxed sims? You weren't concerned when EA basically killed
every semi-independent studio they owned (including fabulously
successful ones like Maxis) to wrap them up under the "EA Games"
label? Shame on you.
- Oh look: Typhoon is being pimped on the Playstation 2. People
who think that this basically doesn't sound a resounding knell
of doom through this sim need to pull their head out of their
ass. Remember, kids, Rage made Incoming. Rage hired the DiD
people because they are -hot 3D kids, not because of their
sim experience.
- Air Warrior: Vietnam. Ha, ha, ha! Yeah right.

plummerx,

If you manage to find your way back in here, I suggest the following:

If you want to "spread the word" on the state of simulations, do it on your own site. If you want to talk about B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty Eighth the game, we love to hear your input on that after you've played the game.

I'll unban your IP Address after it has been released in North America.

It's a shame really, since you had some good things to say in the BoB forum, but I and others have had enough of this diatribe.
