Some ideas we have come up with over at Bombs-Away.

The major culprits so far:

1) Virtual memory. Need at least a 400Mb swap file, as specified in the README file

2) Windows drive too full - Free up some space! Windows can't grow it's swap file unless there is some room!

3) Graphics drivers. Get the LATEST, except for the latest G400 which have problems - go back a version

4) DON'T enable a3d unless the soundcard has aureal chipset. And get the Latest a3d drivers if you do. (See README)

5) VOODOO's don't have proper AGP, so turn down the graphics options, and don't expect miracles.

6) DX8 compatibility with some video drivers. IF you have problems, get latest DX8 drivers, or revert to DX7a

So, apart from the cd/dvd compatibility, I have yet to see anything to fix.

Jordi

yes, UK tech support told me (don't know why) the you should aim for between 500 - 600 meg free space on your installation disk ASIDE from that required for the swap file (which should be sizeable, mine's 250 meg). Indeed mine now appears to be crash free, where previously it wouldn't get past the options pages.

Support don't think Direct X is the issue here. DX8 along with DX8 card drivers should not be a problem.

Actually upon recollection, the hard drive free space is needed for the games graphics cache. So the more freespace the better it appears!

Not too be `picky` but the words are "We recommend..." suggesting enhanced performance but not saying `X` amount is NEEDED for the game to run (withought ctd)
