REALLY IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER: Last week, Bothell, Wash.-based
Microvision Inc. announced that the United States Army will pump another
$7.5 million into a retinal scanning device for helicopter pilots. The
technology enables the pilot to see data without a screen by projecting
an image onto a pilot's retina from a device mounted on the pilot's
helmet. It's virtual reality, only it's real. The Army may eventually
buy as many as 3,000 of the units at a projected cost "not to exceed"
Still a little pricey...
