Developer claims AMD tech has “kick-started” a new generation of lightweight APIs

Independent UK developer Rebellion today announced that summer chart-topper Sniper Elite 3 is the latest in a small but growing list of high-profile games to include support for AMD’s advanced Mantle API.

Released today as a free Steam update timed to coincide with AMD’s recent Catalyst™ 14.9 WHQL driver release, the Sniper Elite 3 update also includes a new Benchmark mode for both Mantle and DX11.

Writing in an in-depth analysis of Mantle’s performance impact on Sniper Elite 3 for the Rebellion website, the studio’s Head of Programming, Kevin Floyer-Lea explained why Rebellion was so keen to support the API from the beginning:

“This brings the PC closer to console programming, where developers are used to having direct control over available resources and squeezing the most out the hardware.”

Floyer-Lea continues “Whatever else may happen with Mantle in the future, it’s most definitely kick-started a move to more lightweight APIs”, referencing the recent announcements made around Microsoft’s DirectX 12, Apple’s Metal, and Khronos’ Next Generation OpenGL initiative.

Final mission, NEW multiplayer mode and FREE multiplayer update now live on Steam

Independent developer Rebellion today announced the launch of three new pieces of DLC for Sniper Elite 3 on Steam for PC, with the content due to come to Playstation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in the near future.

This comes at the same time Sniper Elite 3 is 33% off in the Steam Weekend Sale (Ends Monday 10am PDT). And the PC Limited Special Edition also goes on sale at 33% off until Friday 26th September.

The Final Showdown

Save Churchill Part 3: Confrontation is the final episode and conclusion to the explosive Save Churchill campaign for Sniper Elite 3, featuring the largest environment ever seen in the series.

German sniper, Raubvogel lies in wait to ambush Churchill’s convoy en-route to the Casablanca Conference. Fight your way through the Axis barricades scattered amongst the foothills, move up into the mountains, flank the enemy encampments and begin your final ascent up the mountain to confront Raubvogel in an epic sniper duel that could decide the fate of a continent.

Stop Winston Churchill’s assassin before it’s too late! One bullet can change history…

NEW multiplayer mode – Capture the Flag

Capture the Flag has returned to the Sniper Elite series, offering players an objective focussed game with more speed and teamwork based gameplay.

Good snipers are still key to victory, but players will need to co-ordinate together to successfully assault the enemy base and capture the flag, relying on each other to protect the flag bearer and their own base from enemy attacks.

FREE multiplayer map – Night Watch

The fifth FREE multiplayer map for Sniper Elite 3 players on all platforms, Night Watch is one of the most challenging maps in the series. Taking players to an oasis shrouded in darkness, the ruins of an old town turned into a makeshift camp for enemy troops.

Two opposing watch towers provide the best sniping opportunities but also carry the highest risk, whereas vegetation on the water front can provide snipers with a place to hide from enemy scopes. The oasis itself provides a choke point as players close in on each other to take new positions and create sniping opportunities.

Night Watch is a balanced map available in all competitive multiplayer game modes, well suited to any team game whilst also offering a more focussed death match experience.

Summer of Sniper

Since its release on June 27th 2014 the Sniper Elite 3 team have been working constantly to bring new content to the game’s fans. Sniper Elite 3 has now had FOUR DLC missions, SIX weapons packs, THREE character skins and FIVE free maps. It’s been an incredible summer for both fans of the series and newcomers alike.

To celebrate Sniper Elite 3 is 33% off in the Steam Weekend Sale right now! As well as this the PC Limited Special Edition is 33% off on the Rebellion Gamestore .

First-Person Shooters Sniper Elite 3 | Donster | |

Independent developer Rebellion today announced the launch of two new pieces of DLC for Sniper Elite 3 on Steam for PC, with the content due to come to Playstation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 later this month.

FREE Outpost Canyon Multiplayer Map

The fourth FREE multiplayer map for Sniper Elite 3 on all platforms, Outpost Canyon sees sharpshooters battle across an abandoned supply line, high up in the windswept Atlas Mountains.

Ominously deserted, the map is littered with evidence of previous skirmishes for what was once a crucial supply line for German forces; forgotten artillery positions and the scorched remains of vehicles mark the undulating landscape, ridges and barren river-bed.

With a free-flowing design and multiple elevated positions Outpost Canyon is an expansive addition to the Sniper Elite 3 multiplayer suite.

Axis Weapons Pack

Sniper Elite 3 players can now turn their enemies’ best weapons against them with new firearms from the German, Royal Italian and Imperial Japanese armies including the Type 99 – king of the long distance rifles.

All three weapons can be used in any multiplayer, singleplayer or co-operative game mode in Sniper Elite 3. The Axis Weapons Pack is available for just $3.99.

The Axis Weapons Pack includes:

  • Type 99 rifle: Japanese made with a higher zoom and lower recoil, this bolt action rifle is one of strongest long range weapons available.
  • MAB 38 submachine gun: boasting an improved rate of fire, range and zoom this Italian submachine gun has a distinct advantage over most.
  • Army Pistol 38: used by German officers and soldiers alike this semi-automatic pistol has a strong rate of fire whilst still maintaining its impressive range.

Snipers dare to enter the Belly of the Beast

Independent UK developer Rebellion today announced Save Churchill Part 2: Belly of the Beast, a brand new singleplayer and co-op mission for Sniper Elite 3 and the second episode of a thrilling new campaign for the game which hit number 1 in multiple countries.

Save Churchill Part 2 is OUT NOW on Steam for PC, and will also debut alongside Part 1 on Playstation 4, Xbox One, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in September.

See gameplay from the new mission in the newly released trailer and screenshots.

Don’t. Look. Down.

Nestled high in the outlying mountains of North Morocco, a concealed Nazi facility straddles the steep canyon sides, mass-producing a new generation of experimental weapons.

But the factory hides an even darker secret – the interrogation of Allied prisoners for intelligence on the movements of the Allied leaders in the run up to the Casablanca conference.

Behind it all stands Raubvogel – mastermind of the Schutzvollstrecker, a secret faction of the German military, and would-be assassin of inspirational wartime leader Winston Churchill.

OSS agent Karl Fairburne nearly gave his life in the city of Siwa just to identify Raubvogel, and now he must infiltrate the intricate maze of walkways and lofty factory interiors, destroy the weapons and reveal the plans behind a world-shattering assassination attempt.

Even by this elite sniper’s standards this is an extraordinary mission, pitting him against Germany’s most terrifying troops, every one eager to unleash their deadly new weapons …
Can he escape the belly of the beast for one final showdown?

Hunker down in Sniper Elite 3’s free Plantation multiplayer map

Independent developer Rebellion today released two pieces of new DLC for Sniper Elite 3 on Steam for PC, with the same content due to come to Playstation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in the near future.

FREE Plantation Multiplayer Map

The third of four FREE multiplayer maps for Sniper Elite 3 players on all platforms, Plantation sees Rebellion’s Runcorn studio play with the typical conventions of the series’ multiplayer design.

Once again highlighting the lush variety offered by the game’s North African setting, Plantation is flanked by a traversable swamp while a water wheel irrigates the surrounding areas via a network of shallow trenches, offering opportunities for stealthy movement and quick escapes.

Eschewing the traditional battles for a handful of commanding views, Plantation offers an open and rewardingly complex environment encouraging snipers to think creatively about their location and movement.

Eastern Front Weapons Pack

Imported from the bitter climes of Eastern Europe, some of World War Two’s most iconic weapons are now available to play in Sniper Elite 3 via the Eastern Front weapons pack. Available for use across all game modes the pack includes the Blyskawica submachine gun, the Tokarev TT-33 pistol and the Mosin-Nagant rifle.

Independent developer Rebellion today announced the launch of two new pieces of DLC for Sniper Elite 3 on Steam for PC, with the content due to come to Playstation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in the near future.

FREE Lost Valley Multiplayer Map

The second of four multiplayer maps which are FREE for all Sniper Elite 3 players, Lost Valley is one of the most diverse maps ever made for the series, from perilous vertical terrain and excavated ruins, to a sinkhole, open jungle and sea shallows. Packed with secret routes, vantage points and plenty of lush foliage for cover, snipers must decide whether to navigate the dangerously exposed mountain terrain for a commanding view of the battlefield, or opt to ambush enemy combatants from the waterfront shallows, temporary airfield and tented camps below.

Sniper Rifles Pack

Some of history’s most revered rifles make a welcome return to Sniper Elite 3 in the Sniper Rifles weapons pack now live on Steam and coming to consoles soon. Available for use across all modes, the Sniper Rifles weapons pack includes the Kar 98k , M1917 Enfield, and a specially tuned version of the fan-favourite Springfield rifle.

Summer of Sniper

Having already kicked off the first in a three-part Save Churchill DLC campaign, Rebellion have promised more content to come over the summer months including another two FREE multiplayer maps, more weapons packs and the concluding two missions in the Save Churchill campaign.

Independent developer Rebellion today launched new downloadable content for the chart-topping Sniper Elite 3, including the first mission of a three part singleplayer campaign; Save Churchill.

Save Churchill: Part 1 – In Shadows is now live on Steam for PC, and was released alongside the new Patriot Weapons Pack and a FREE update featuring a new multiplayer map called Airstrip.

The surprise announcement came at the end of a video published on Rebellion’s YouTube channel where team members gave fans a sneak peek at the future of Sniper Elite 3, confirming that all DLC content will be coming to PC, Playstation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

About the new Save Churchill campaign

Set after the events of Sniper Elite 3, Save Churchill follows OSS sniper Karl Fairburne in his attempts to uncover and prevent a Nazi assassination attempt on the British Prime Minister in the run up to the famous Casablanca Conference of 1943.

Save Churchill: Part 1 – In Shadows is set in an atmospheric night time re-imagining of the shadowy city of Siwa, but Rebellion’s Head of Creative Tim Jones also promised that the new North African environments in development for parts Two and Three will “blow people away” – including the largest level ever created in the series’ history.

Jones added that Rebellion wanted to offer players who’ve completed Sniper Elite 3’s main campaign “new encounters, new weapons, new unit types … the new missions are going to feel very different.”

Death in the Desert

By Mikel Reparaz, IGN

Sniper Elite III is a celebration of extravagant carnage – and, less significantly, a big improvement over 2012′s Sniper Elite V2. Its predecessor’s stiff, linear gameplay has been swapped out for a more open-ended, creativity-enabling approach to stealth-shooting. But the big draw – the real draw – is the same pornographically violent X-ray-vision carnage that erupts whenever your bullets meet their targets.
