rainbowsix-siege-logoRainbow Six’s long-awaited revival leaves us wanting more – a little too much more.

By Ryan McCaffery, IGN

Rainbow Six: Siege pulls me in opposite directions at the same time. On the one hand, the moment-to-moment gameplay experience is fantastic. Every second of the short rounds matter, walls and floors won’t protect you, and sound tactics win matches. But, like other 2015 multiplayer-focused shooters such as Evolve and Star Wars Battlefront, there’s not a lot of there there. My time with Siege leaves me feeling like this Rainbow Six revival is a skeleton with not a lot of meat on its bones.

The Rainbow Six website announces Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege is now available, offering the chance to siege the day with the latest installment in the tactical shooter series. The GeForce website offers a Graphics & Performance Guide on how to get the best visuals for the game on their hardware. The game is available on Steam and Steam announces that if you buy the game there before December 14th you get a free copy of Rainbow Six Vegas 1. This offering is being applied retroactively to all who preordered the game as well. Here’s the description of the game:

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege invites players to master the art of destruction. Intense close quarters confrontations, high lethality, tactics, team play, and explosive action are at the center of the experience. The gameplay sets a new bar for intense firefights and expert strategy in the rich legacy of past Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six games.

THE SIEGE GAMEPLAY
For the first time in Rainbow Six, players will engage in sieges, a brand-new style of assault. Enemies now have the means to transform their environments into strongholds: they can trap, fortify, and create defensive systems to prevent breach by Rainbow teams.

To face this challenge, players have a level of freedom unrivaled by any previous Rainbow Six game. Combining tactical maps, observation drones, and a new rappel system, Rainbow teams have more options than ever before to plan, attack, and diffuse these situations.

Rainbow Six: Siege is almost here, but before it launches, the developers want to give everyone one more chance to try it out. That’s why they will be running an Open Beta on all platforms from November 25 through November 29. This is your opportunity to hop in, play with the operators, check out a few of the maps and modes on offer, and help the developers run one last stress test before the game officially launches on December 1 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Because of the Open Beta, all players will be able to pre-load the game on November 23, and those who participated in the Closed Beta in September will be able to jump into the Open Beta a day early (on November 24). During the Open Beta, you’ll have access to 14 operators (out of the 20 that will be available at launch), including 3 of the Russian Spetsnaz operators you may have seen during the Closed Beta – Glaz, Tachanka and Kapkan.

Ubisoft has launched a new video for Rainbow Six: Siege, a reboot of the series that puts players in the middle of lethal close-quarters confrontations. For the first time in a Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six game, players will engage in sieges, a new style of assault where enemies have the means to transform their environments into modern strongholds while Rainbow Six teams lead the assault to breach the enemy’s position.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege promises to give players unprecedented control over their ability to fortify their position – by reinforcing walls and floors, using barbed wire, deployable shields and mines, and more – or breach the enemies’ using observation drones, sheet charges, rappelling, and more.

rainbowsix-siege-logoTHROUGH AN INTENSE ONLINE TRAINING PLATFORM, PLAYERS WILL LEARN THE BEST INTERVENTION TACTICS AND HAVE THE CHANCE TO WIN A KEY FOR THE UPCOMING CLOSED BETA

Today, Ubisoft unveiled that Art of Siege, the first community facility to learn, master and discuss the strategies and tactics of siege, is now available online. This interactive platform will allow players to better prepare their future matches in Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, the upcoming installment of the best-selling Rainbow Six franchise, when it releases worldwide on December 1 for PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC.

Being one of the most complex forms of warfare, the siege technique requires years of training for elite teams, in order to handle each situation with the right strategies and tactics. With Art of Siege, players will enter Field Training, an intense Rainbow Six training program allowing them to get familiar with the different gambits, strategies and Operator specialties. Only the players able to earn the total gold stars in the five Field Training Exercises will obtain a key to the Closed Beta.

Art of Siege will also include Wall of Tactics, an area in which each Closed Beta participant will be able to share their best tactical videos, recorded during their own matches. It will be up to other players to vote and elect which tactics are the best overall. Wall of Tactics will go live with at the launch of the Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Closed Beta, on September 24 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.

Here’s an Art of Siege trailer for your viewing pleasure.

Whether it’s been through playtests in our studios, the closed alpha, or recent hands-on demos at events like E3 or Gamescom, player feedback has been essential to the development of Rainbow Six: Siege. Getting the game in people’s hands and listening to what they have to say helps us understand how we can improve their experience, and we’d like to thank everyone who’s taken part in the process so far.

With that in mind, we’ve decided to push the release date of Rainbow Six: Siege to December 1, 2015 for all regions. This wasn’t an easy decision, but based on the feedback we’ve received, and based on our own internal tests, we felt there are adjustments and improvements we can make, including improving the co-op experience across all game modes, weapon and gadget balancing, as well as menu and interface navigation. We’re taking a little more time to make these changes, and we think it’s the right call.

The closed beta for Rainbow Six: Siege will still start on September 24, 2015 as planned, and the additional time will allow us to further test things like infrastructure and matchmaking. That extra testing and added polish will make for a higher-quality experience at launch.

We understand that many of you are excited to get your hands on the final game, but as gamers ourselves we know that quality comes first and we are committed to delivering the best game possible.

Bringing Rainbow Six: Siege to life continues to be an incredible experience, and we’d like to thank all fans for your feedback, support, and unwavering enthusiasm. We couldn’t make the game without you. We hope you’re all excited for the upcoming closed beta on September 24.

Another E3 2015 trailer for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege shows off co-op gameplay from the upcoming tactical shooter, captured showing five players teaming up against the AI. Here’s word from the UbiBlog:

We’ve told you all about the new TerroHunt in Rainbow Six: Siege. We dug in on the little details like “What modes are part of it?” and “Who are we fighting this time?” But what is it like to actually play TerroHunt? Better yet, what’s it like to play TerroHunt on the hardest setting in the game? After spending a good chunk of time with TerroHunt on Normal, my team and I decided to give Realistic a shot in the newly revealed Consulate map and what followed was an adventure full of surprise Bombers, accidental team kills and seemingly impossible scenarios.

UbiBlog now offers the E3 2015 multiplayer trailer from Rainbow Six: Siege, the upcoming installment in the tactical shooter series. Here’s the accompanying explanation:

One team defends, the other attacks. It’s a simple dynamic, but what Rainbow: Six Siege’s multiplayer does with it is immediately, irresistibly compelling, as two squads of five counter-terrorist experts use every trick at their disposal to hamper, misdirect and destroy one another. Rainbow Six: Siege’s matches are as open-ended as they are vicious, and you can get another glimpse of them in this trailer, unveiled today during Microsoft’s E3 2015 press conference.

Each of Siege’s multiplayer stages presents its own unique challenges – a fortified jetliner, for example, doesn’t offer as many entry points as a windowed building with skylights in its flat roof – and overcoming your enemies’ fortifications and traps is just as fun as laying them. If you’d like an early sample of Siege’s cerebral shootouts, you can sign up for the closed beta, which begins on September 24. Everyone else won’t have long to wait, however, as Rainbow Six: Siege launches on October 13 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC
