World of Tanks

The all new Battle Pass is brimming with exciting rewards for players – including unique Bounty Equipment!

For the first time in World of Tanks history, Battle Pass has arrived, and it is here to stay. Set to be a long-running event – the inaugural season of Battle Pass will run from March 12th to June 10th 2020, giving players the chance to enjoy exciting rewards and a gratifying addition to the World of Tanks gameplay experience. And this will not simply be a one-off – the Battle Pass will return for a number of seasons following this inaugural event!

The new Battle Pass will change the way that players enjoy World of Tanks, allowing them to earn amazing rewards by simply playing the game,” states Max Chuvalov, Publishing Director for World of Tanks. “This event will also be one of a series of seasons – so make sure to get playing to start earning those progression points!

To enjoy the many benefits offered by World of Tanks Battle Pass, players have to join Random Battles (except for Grand Battles), earning progression points that will relate to their XP and position in the post battle ranking. So even through a victory, defeat or draw – players will still earn points that will stay with them and enhance their Battle Pass progression.

To create a real sense of achievement for players, the Battle Pass progression system includes two challenges: Main and Elite, with Main featuring 45 stages, and Elite with 100. Once all 45 stages of the Main Progression are completed, players can jump straight into Elite Progression – getting the chance to fight for more points, bigger rewards and even an Elite Chevron that will boast their current Battle Pass stage and in-game skills to other players.

Rewards within the World of Tanks Battle Pass include unique Bounty Equipment, with the Bounty Rammer and Bounty Gun Laying Device. Players can also earn Premium Account time, credits, customization elements and other in-game goodies.

Those who reach the 45th stage of the Main Progression will be granted exclusive 3D styles for one of the two special vehicles (the Super Conqueror or the Object 277) and a commander with enough XP to learn three extra skills/perks.

Players also have the opportunity to add to this event with the Improved pass – helping them to achieve an even bigger heap of rewards from the Main Progression or the Elite Progression pool of prizes. This can be obtained during any stage of the event.

In order to experience World of Tanks Battle Pass, Players must have a Tier VI (or higher) vehicle at hand.

A new update for World of Tanks brings double-barreled heavies with an impressive firing mechanic to the battlefield

Today World of Tanks welcomes the first update of 2020: 1.7.1. The new version features, among other things, a trio of heavies brandishing a couple of large-caliber guns each. Here’s what you need to know before rushing to research them to take these formidable armored vehicles for a spin.

The double-barreled newcomers are all Soviet, sitting at Tiers VIII, IX, and X in an all-new branch stemming from the KV-3 at Tier VII. They are capable of firing their twin guns consecutively or in thundering salvos (the latter requiring some time to prepare).

The first in this new line of heavies is the IS-2-II. Those tankers who found an Object 703 II in their New Year Boxes should feel right at home with the IS-2-II as they handle similarly. However, the new, researchable Tier VIII gunslinger will forsake some of its one-time damage for a faster reload time.

At Tier IX, players will be introduced to the IS-3-II and its firm handshake, one capable of dealing 390 points of damage in a single shot. And finally, at Tier X they will tame the ST-II. It’s much like the ST-I already present in the game: it’s as well-armored and utilizes the same 122-mm gun that’s able to inflict 440 points of damage with a standard round. The difference is, the ST-II brings two of these guns to a fight.

The concept of double-barreled tanks haunted many a tank engineer,” says Max Chuvalov, World of Tanks Publishing Director at Wargaming. “But due to various reasons no such project has ever been brought to life. Yet in our game you can ride these monsters into battle looking just as they would have come to be.

Besides the two-barreled Soviet heavies, Update 1.7.1 offers tankers a very useful tool: the Demount Kit. It allows players to demount equipment from a vehicle without any Gold cost. And for those who like making their tanks look stunning, they will have access to several new 3D styles.

See in the New Year with a special event that will spread festive cheer

World of Tanks is ready to see in both Christmas and New Year with its biggest in-game event of the year: Holiday Ops 2020. It’s all about baubles and battles. From 13th December to 14th January, players will be able to spruce up a new in-game garage, which is better suited for the upcoming holidays, and earn great rewards. It’s something that would even put a smile on Ebenezer Scrooge’s face!

This new garage features an interactive Christmas tree, a feast, an installation and a yard, all ready to be adorned to your liking. There are more than 300 different decorations to be found and 4 collections to be completed (Christmas, New Year, Magic New Year and Lunar New Year). So, get ready to deck the garage with bundles of decorations, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!

Normally at Christmas, only the best behaved get rewards, but not with Holiday Ops; players will receive decorations for causing destruction, creating their own New Year’s firework display and completing special missions in Random Battles. By putting up these ornaments, tankers will increase their Festive Atmosphere and each new level will bring special rewards!

Once players reach level 5 of Festive Atmosphere, they will be introduced to a brand-new Holiday Ops 2020 mechanic: the ability to create their own dream team of vehicles that will earn additional bonuses in battle. The machines chosen will become Holiday Ops vehicles and depending on their class, they will earn extra Battle XP, Free XP or Crew XP. Tankers will initially start with one Holiday Ops vehicle slot at level 5, but with each level increase, a new slot will be unlocked. The Festive Atmosphere level that unlocks a new slot corresponds to the vehicle tier which can be placed there; level 5 is for Tier V vehicles, level 6 for Tier VI, and so on.

There are a lot of festivities going on, but players won’t be doing this alone: they’ll be guided through Holiday Ops 2020 by the Snow Maidens. Every day they will gift players a present that features one random decoration and personal missions for 5x XP. The Snow Maidens will also be rewards for hitting certain levels of Festive Atmosphere so tankers will be able to keep them as crew members for good!

2019 has been a great year and Holiday Ops is the perfect way to not only end it, but also to kick off 2020,” states Max Chuvalov, World of Tanks Global Publishing Director. “We hope our players love the festive mood we’ve created and the fairy tale nature of the event as we wanted to give them something they’d never forget!

And there’s even more! The holidays are a time of giving and Holiday Ops is no different. Whether they’ve been naughty or nice, from 13th December each tanker will get a special present that contains the Tier II French Premium light tank, the F42 AMR, 3 decoration boxes and one Charge (a special item that can be used during Holiday Ops). Thanks, Santa!

New kind of ray tracing technology developed by Wargaming and Intel will improve the visual fidelity of World of Tanks on any PC supporting DirectX 11 and above; even on notebooks with the latest generations of Intel integrated graphics

Introduced in March 2018 as part of Update 1.0, the Core graphics engine significantly improved the visual fidelity of World of Tanks. Now it’s time to move forward and integrate new technologies into the core engine. One of them will be a new form of ray tracing that will bring close to displaying real-life shadows that can be run on any graphics cards that supports DirectX 11. That means that it could be even enabled on the latest notebooks with the latest generations of Intel integrated graphics without a special graphics card with hardware ray tracing support.

The correct implementation of shadows has been one of the industry’s biggest problems for a long time. In Wargaming’s case, it was implementing correct vehicle shadows and being in a constant balance between quality and performance. At one point the vehicles in World of Tanks became more detailed than their shadows and it was time for a change.

Intel had a library called Intel Embree for a long time. It specializes in quick BVH building and has been mostly used in offline applications, the movie industry, computer-animated films and so on. During the collaboration and consulting Intel’s advanced rendering team, Wargaming comes with a solution and implemented the multi-core technology and solutions for concurrent rendering in update 1.4, the Intel Embree technology which took less than a week.

It visually will get close to displaying real-life shadows as they will be sharp or soft in those very places where they should be, as they will try to mimic real-life shadow behavior. “Ray tracing is a true revolution in video game graphics that is happening before our eyes—and we at Wargaming are among the revolutionaries,” says Bronislav Sviglo, World of Tanks Render Team Lead. “The development of ray-traced shadow tech with the help of our partners from Intel is just the beginning. Take a look at the fruits of our labor today—download World of Tanks enCore RT!

These shadows are only the start and much more can be done with the help of this new technology. Realistic reflections ambient occlusion, global illumination and the whole frame, in general, can be generated using it, but billions of rays for one frame need to be processed to do so. Currently no computer can do it in real-time and it will be a long time until it’s possible, but you will be already able to enjoy the ray-traced shadow in World of Tanks in the very near future.

We decided to use World of Tanks enCore as we did before the update 1.0 release. World of Tanks enCore will now let our players try ray tracing in-game, you can already download the World of Tanks enCore RT app. Launch it, adjust the rate tracing quality, check if your computer can handle it and see the visual difference.

From October 15, World of Tanks enCore RT will be available to download at: https://wotencore.net/en-eu/

Take a look at the video where those behind the ray tracing tech explain how it works.

The game gets an improved matchmaker, new SPG mechanics, and Tier X light tanks

Wargaming today released Update 9.18 for World of Tanks, bringing fundamental changes to the game. The dev team started on their quest to evolve the game’s core by tackling some of the most heated issues the project has today. With this update, they introduced the new, template-based matchmaking system, made comprehensive changes to artillery, and revised light tank lines, stretching them to Tier X.

The improved matchmaker assembles teams choosing from a set of server-based algorithms—templates—so that both camps always have the same number of vehicles at the top/middle/bottom of the list. It also limits the number of SPGs per side to 3 at the most and significantly reduces the instances of map duplications. Together, these new rules and restrictions are designed to foster an engaging gaming experience where it’s almost impossible to predict the battle outcome and every player gets to contribute to it.

9.18 is one of the most significant updates ever introduced, both in terms of the importance of the issues it tackles and sheer scope of fundamental changes it simultaneously brings into the game,” said Thaine Lyman, World of Tanks Product Director. “It’s been a massive quest for the team. We are thankful to players who pitched in to help us improve the core gameplay aspects. We’ll continue refining these newly introduced features, while also working on further improvements that fundamentally push the quality of the game forward.

The newly implemented stun mechanic transforms SPGs into long-range support fire vehicles that can now debilitate enemy tanks, affecting factors such as their reload speed. Instead of inflicting critical damage, SPGs now play in close cooperation with the team. They set the attack direction and support their fellow tankers from afar.

Finally, light tank branches were stretched to Tier X, which marked the introduction of the regular ±2 tier spread for them. Five nations (USA, Germany, France, U.S.S.R., and China) were reinforced with new Tier X vehicles and went through a series of balance tweaks to make them suitable for ±2 battles. Boasting excellent speed and decent firepower, topped with superior scouting abilities, light tanks are now more capable than ever in augmenting their teammates and making a decisive impact on the battle. An all-new battle arena hits the game’s test server bringing bigger maps, larger teams, and intense action

Wargaming has revealed its partnership with Austrian developer Bongfish, who brought over a decade of experience working with well-known publishers to bear on a new game mode for World of Tanks, dubbed Frontline. From today, players can put the new mode through its paces in the World of Tanks test server, Sandbox.

What can players expect from Frontline? Epic 30v30 tank clashes across vast 9 km2 battlefields, with one team pushing the assault while the other defends their territory. Over several rounds, the action spreads deeper behind defensive lines until a winner is declared.

Players have been asking us for larger teams, bigger maps, and new combat setups for some time,” said Milos Jerabek, World of Tanks Development Director. “Wargaming’s distributed development approach made this a reality and we partnered with Bongfish to create the new mode—all while the in-house team for World of Tanks works on the game’s key mechanics. Bongfish has a ton of expertise to make it happen under our guidance. There’s true chemistry between the both of us, and we look forward to revealing what this collaboration brings to players.

We’ve been working on Frontline for a while now, and are excited to finally show it to the world,” said Michael Putz, Bongfish Founder and CEO. “We’re passionate about authentic gameplay and vast open spaces, and so are World of Tanks developers. By working with them, we can channel this passion to create something one of a kind for tankers to enjoy.

Sandbox has been an integral component in improving the game as well as fostering a conversation between the players. Frontline marks the third time the game tests the waters in Sandbox to ensure World of Tanks continues going from strength to strength.

World of Tanks and Dolph Lundgren put manliness back on track in their latest ad

Once, long ago, the world knew what manliness was—lifting weights, chopping wood, tuning up your muscle car, not looking another man in the eye when you’re both answering the call of nature. Now it’s up to World of Tanks and Dolph Lundgren to get manliness back on track.

In the latest advert from Wargaming, we embark on a journey with Dolph to discover how to choose a real man’s hobby in the hectic world of today. It’s a tough mission, requiring a man who is not afraid to put his mind, body, and soul on the line to stay, what the Vikings (probably) call, skǫruligr (manly).
