It says 1988 was when Game Commander 1 was released on the main page. Just pointing out an error...

as a GC user I have little to say: I totally agree with CS article, very glad of the new GC2 functionalities (I spent the money simply trusting the job done by Mindmaker with GCMX and I think I've been fully paid back), but overall I'm noticing very fewer recognition mistakes than the former yet fine version

GC users should also take note that the recognition time has improved to the point where it's near-instantaneous.

GC2 is awesome in comparison to GC and GCMX. Recognition times are fast, very impressed with GC2. Its the one to have for ingame voice command solution IMHO.

I have to agree with the excellent review here. Since I received GC2, I've been blown away by its near-instantaneous reaction time, little CPU usage, and ease of use. I had a buddy of mine try GC2 after trying to convince me to get a MS Game Voice, and he nearly kicked himself silly.

Nice review and I agree with most of it except the comment in regard to Plantronics headsets. I've had Labtec LVA-8550 which broke in 7 months. I bought Plantronics LS1 (as recommended by RogerWilco site) and it gives me much more clean and accurate recording which lead to more accurate hit rate for GC2. Headphone sound quality is more crisp, it's lighter, and it's cheaper. Much much much better than Labtec crap. Anyway, this was GC2 reveiw and not headsets. Good review.

Forgive me for saying this, but I find it somewhat hard to take this stellar review seriously given that combatsim carries The "Game Commander 2 banner-add" in it's http://www.combatsim.com/central-ad/banners/ cycle.

You guys could be trying to sell more units for your sponsors, how can we be sure?

Mikemike,

Oh, what to say . . . hmmmm?

Yes, we are the lackies of the Game Commander Collective. You will be assimilated! Resistance is futile.

Seriously, Bob Marks is the most genuine reviewer I've ever had the pleasure to work with. If Bob doesn't like something he says so . . . without qualification. When Bob says he likes something, you can take it to the bank.

Hey, if getting advertising revenue was as easy as kissin' some developer's butt with good reviews, then no one would be able to read anything but shining accounts of products---print mag, web site, or otherwise.

I've seen sites that have tried the "we love everything" approach but they have no readers . . . and advertisers tend not to spend ad dollars on sites with no readers.

lol, Okay, you've convinced me. I don't know this Bob Marks guy, but you sound like you're are on the level + I'll give the product a try, and tell you what I think.

It is awesome. I will never forget trying it with Mechwarrior 3, to control my lancemates and onboard systems ala "coolant flush".
I gave a voice command, the lances answered back by voice, and carried out the command. I cannot adequetly describe the shere joy of that moment. GC really made the single player game way more immersive, I felt morew a part of the game world instead of just pushing keys.
Now GC2 is here, and the command response so much faster. I just wish I had GC2 back when I was struggling to learn the Janes Longbow II keyboard commands. hehhehheh Maybe there will be an LB III one day. ;0)

LB3? I wish. But we won't. Not before we all have 2GHz CPUs, anyway.

All,

Yes, we have our banner ad for Game Commander 2 on CombatSim. However, the original version of Game Commander also won "Top Pick" well before we ever ran ads on the site. So, rest assured that the review is not biased because we advertise our product here.

Groucho,

A thousand thanks for the "Top Pick"! We really appreciate it and will continue to push the envelope to extend the gaming experience.

Okay, I'm convinced... GC2 looks to be recognition program of choice.

There seems to be a debate on headsets though... anyone else have input

On a sad note...

I was browsing the postings at voodoocomputers.com (<--- best builder) and it appears that Jane's is leaving the sim building genre. Something to do with too much cost to develop... anyone hear more on that?
