Conflict of Heroes: Ghost Divisions Released - CoH: Awakening the Bear Patch

Posted by Donster on: 2013-06-14 12:39:05 in category: Strategy and Wargaming News [ Print ]

Matrix Games and Western Civilization Software are proud to announce the release of the long awaited Conflict of Heroes: Ghost Divisions, the first expansion for the official computer adaptation of the award-winning World War 2 tactical wargame Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear.

Similar to the Awakening the Bear release, Conflict of Heroes: Ghost Divisions adds new content that has never been available before to Conflict of Heroes players, while staying true to the original board game rules. It also adds an exciting new feature – the ability to play any campaign multiplayer against a human opponent!

Ghost Divisions focuses on the battles of Army Group Center (nicknamed the "Ghost Division" because of its speed and independent movement, which even the German High Command had difficulty following) and its two Panzer Groups under Guderian and Hoth against the Red Army, the rapid initial Blitzkrieg and the drives to encircle and destroy the Soviet forces. Speed, coordination, concentration and combined arms will be necessary to lead your forces to victory!

This brand new expansion allows you to play company and platoon-sized forces from the 7th Panzer Division and the Grossdeutschland Regiment in two additional campaigns with 10 Scenarios total as a stand-alone or directly in the main game. Multiplayer has also been added for head to head linked campaign games!

Accordingly with this new expansion, we release also the v1.30 update for Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear. This update includes improvements in memory management, and numerous bug fixes, plus adds features to be used with Ghost Divisions.

To download the update, players can run “Check for Update” via the game menu or download it directly from the game’s download page.

Germany at War: Barbarossa 1941 Announced

Posted by Donster on: 2013-06-14 12:32:48 in category: Strategy and Wargaming News [ Print ]

Matrix Games and Phobetor are pleased to announce the upcoming release of Germany at War: Barbarossa 1941, a new introductory turn-based operational wargame.

This new title features gameplay in the style of Panzer General and Panzer Corps, with a branching, event-filled campaign that takes you from the start of Operation Barbarossa towards the historical goals of Archangel or Astrakhan. Follow each Army Group through its initial battles, build up a core force, then decide which front will have the main focus, North, Center or South. Your decisions and outcomes determine the course of the campaign, which is designed with replayability in mind.

Germany at War: Barbarossa 1941 is more historically focused than similar games, with an emphasis on historical units and attachments and consistent modeling of unit and hex scale, but is still a fun and easy to learn wargame. With 4 Campaigns, including 37 scenarios in the main campaign, 14 stand-alone scenarios and an editor with which to add new mission, multiplayer PBEM++ support and good graphics, this game is an exciting new milestone for gamers who enjoy Panzer Corps and similar games.

Review: NZXT Sentry Mix 2 Fan Controller and NZXT Grid

Posted by Donster on: 2013-06-14 11:59:18 in category: System Cooling [ Print ]

By Vinny Petronio @ PureOC

Today we are looking at a new arrival from NZXT. It is a successor to the Sentry Mix, and appropriately labeled the Sentry Mix 2. For those of you who are not familiar with its predecessor, the general design was a little gaudy with those big plastic silver sliders. It is reminiscent of some of the older styled audio mixing equipment. But boy did it perform, boosting 6 channels at 50 watts per channel. The new Sentry Mix 2 from NZXT along with its continuation of customizable lighting features, also brings with it a new look.

Also on my test bench today is another new arrival from NZXT, it’s called the NZXT Grid. This is a fan hub that sports LED lighting, and is designed not only for the NZXT family of controllers, but can also be powered by your power supply’s 4-pin Molex connection. The NZXT Grid can be attached to the back side of your MB tray, and gives you the options of installing up to ten fans in any location, thus keeping your motherboard and your build free from any unsightly fan cables. Read on to see what else these two dynamic duos may have to offer and if the NZXT Grid can become the perfect companion when paired together with the NZXT Sentry Mix 2.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Footage

Posted by Donster on: 2013-06-10 14:37:28 in category: First-Person Shooter News [ Print ]

Source: Blue's News

The Call of Duty website has a video of an "all access" video providing at least some access to Call of Duty: Ghosts, attended by Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg and hosted by "Spike TV's Geoff Keighley and Internet personality iJustine," the clip offers a look at gameplay, promising that is shows off basically anything they will be showing off to the assembled journalists at E3 this week. Here's word:

Gamers saw the level "Into the Deep," a beautiful and awe-inspiring underwater mission that pulses with lifelike realism and heart-pounding tension; "No Man's Land," an eerie glimpse at the aftermath of a world recovering from a catastrophic event, as well as the first chance for gamers to get their first peek at Riley, the new canine character in Call of Duty: Ghosts. The televised special, which was broadcast live on television on DirecTV, on consoles and on popular online outlets around the world, offered viewers a sneak peek at the gameplay a full two days before the industry commences its annual E3 conference. The global telecast also featured a series of interviews with members of the Infinity Ward development team, as well as Academy Award® winning writer Stephen Gaghan, who is penning the script for the new title.

Fans also got a sneak peek at a massive, immersive and unprecedented video wall built by Activision for show attendees on-site at E3. Call of Duty's "Show Mode" experience also features state-of-the-art visual/sound effects, controlled pyrotechnics, wind, smoke and low-lying fog to highlight original Call of Duty content, providing a truly unique experience for attendees at the show.

With an amazing level of attention down to the smallest detail, where each hair is noticeable on character models, scratches and bruises are apparent, and even the dirt beneath fingernails of characters are recognizable, Call of Duty: Ghosts sets a new bar of visual fidelity and near photorealism without sacrificing any performance, maintaining the hallmark of 60 frames per second-on every platform-to provide that signature Call of Duty smoothness and gameplay.

"Our new tech is allowing us to deliver an absolutely stunning next generation Call of Duty experience on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, but that's not all. The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will reap the benefits of our new tech as well, which we believe will make this the most striking Call of Duty game ever created, regardless of what platform our fans choose," said Infinity Ward, executive producer, Mark Rubin.

Scourge of War: Brandy Station Announced

Posted by Donster on: 2013-06-10 14:31:23 in category: Strategy and Wargaming News [ Print ]

Matrix Games and NorbSoftDev announce the upcoming release of Brandy Station, the latest expansion for the definitive American Civil War grand tactical wargame of this generation: Scourge of War.

On June 9, 1863 at 4:30 a.m. the largest cavalry battle of the American Civil War; the Battle of Brandy Station began. It was one of the earliest battles of the Gettysburg campaign, fought by the Union cavalry under Maj. Gen. Alfred Pleasonton against Maj. Gen. J.E.B. Stuart's Confederate cavalry.

Pleasonton launched a surprise dawn attack on Stuart's cavalry at Brandy Station, Virginia. Despite the advantage of surprise and after an all-day fight with alternating fortunes, the Union forces retired.

Tactically the battle was drawn, although arguably Stuart could claim victory as he held the field at the end of the day. However, for the longer term progress of the war the outcome of the battle was a significant milestone since it signaled the demise of the Confederate cavalry's dominance in the war.

Scourge of War: Brandy Station covers the entire Battle -- the largest cavalry engagement ever fought on North American soil. It features a 5 x 5 mile game map, ten single player scenarios and five multiplayer scenarios. Also including a scenario overview map in PDF format showing the location of each scenario and its starting time.

Scourge of War: Brandy Station is released in commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War which changed the fate of North America and is sure to satisfy any strategy aficionado of the period.
