New Screens: Lock On
We have a couple of new screenshots from Ubi Soft's upcoming jet simulation, Lock On: Modern Air Combat. The screens feature the Israeli F-16, and Su25 Rockets.

New Screens: Blitzkrieg
Today we re going to give you an exclusive look at another special unit in the upcoming WWII RTS, Blitzkrieg. We have two new screenshots of the soviet TM-1-180, and another one from the armor-plated train. The soviet TM-1-180 had a range of 36 kilometres (nearly 23 miles) and was a formidable weapon with huge penetration into enemy territory. It was able to fire off up to 5 shells per minute and they were approx 100kg each. The TM-1-180 originates from a ship gun and was combined with an armor-plated train which pulled the steel giant (no mean feat given a weight of approx. 160 tons).

Global Hawk Accident Report Released
Air Force investigators have determined mechanical failure caused an Air Force RQ-4A Global Hawk aircraft to crash July 10 during a surveillance mission in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The Global Hawk, an unmanned reconnaissance aircraft, was destroyed upon impact in an unpopulated area in the Central Command area of responsibility. No one was injured in the accident. The aircraft was assigned to the 12th Expeditionary Reconnaissance Squadron, but its parent unit is the 9th Reconnaissance Wing at Beale Air Force Base, Calif.

According to an Air Combat Command Accident Investigation Report released today, the primary cause of the accident was the failure of a single fuel nozzle in the high flow position that eventually caused internal failure of the engine. The aircraft impacted the ground during an attempted emergency landing.(Souce: Air Combat Command)

F-16 Upgrade Version Completed on Schedule
The latest version of Lockheed Martin F-16s to have Common Configuration Implementation Program (CCIP) modifications have begun delivery on schedule.

The Phase IA configuration incorporates the APX-113 air-to-air interrogator, which provides the F-16 pilot increased situation awareness and the ability to autonomously identify targets, and thus, a robust beyond- visual-range intercept capability using the AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air- to-Air Missile.

The Phase IA configuration also includes two new electronics units for displays and data entry, which use commercial components that provide increased throughput, reliability and supportability.

A corresponding software change allows the aircraft to operate either the High-speed Anti-Radiation Missile Targeting System pod or a FLIR targeting pod (including the new Sniper XR Advanced Targeting Pod) from the right inlet chin station. The latter is new to USAF Block 50/52 aircraft and provides a capability to destroy ground targets using laser-guided bombs. These aircraft already were capable of employing global positioning system-guided weapons through a software upgrade made two years ago.

The F-16, the choice of 23 countries, is the world's most sought-after fighter. More than 4,000 aircraft have been delivered, hundreds more are on order for the United States and seven other countries, and production is expected to continue beyond 2010. Major upgrades for all F-16 versions are being incorporated to keep the fleet modern and fully supportable over the aircraft's long service life.
