Russian Kubinka Tank Museum to Restore Maus Super-Heavy Tank with Wargaming

Posted by Donster on: 2014-04-22 18:22:31 in category: Military History [ Print ]

Wargaming today unveiled its plans to join with its long-term partner, the Russian Kubinka Tank Museum, to reconstruct and put back to a running condition the only remaining Panzer VIII Maus tank.

“Wargaming closely cooperates with military museums around the world,” said Andrei Yarantsau, VP of Publishing at Wargaming. “We are excited to contribute to the Kubinka’s initiative and plan on supporting the museum in future. We’ll help it put together an exclusive collection of armored warfare, assisting it in lifting and reconstruction of legendary military vehicles and enriching its exhibition with renowned machines from private collections from across the world. A unique selection of legendary warfare will attract military enthusiasts from Russia and abroad, sparking interest towards military history and inspiring younger generations to learn more about their country’s past.”

Regarded as the epitome of excellent tank design, the colossal Panzerkampfwagen VIII Maus is the heaviest, fully enclosed armored fighting vehicle to see completion during World War II. Weighing 188 tonnes, only two prototypes were ever completed. The sole surviving tank is housed at the Kubinka Museum with an empty hull.

The museum and Wargaming intend to re-build its interior from scratch based on authentic diagrams. Missing parts will be restored in single quantities at a number of tank-building plants, with the entire process supervised by experienced warfare instaurators. The conserved Maus will be stored at the Kubinka Museum so that people from all over the world may come see the renowned vehicle with their own eyes.

Wargaming is involved in a number of socially significant projects that aid in the preservation of historic heritage. The company has launched a global campaign to assist in the search for and conservation of military warfare worldwide, including the support of the Soviet T-34-76 tank restoration in Belarus and the lifting and reconstruction of the KV-1 USSR tank in Voronezh, Russia. Other activities include the recovery of the world’s last remaining Dornier Do 17, now on display at the Royal Air Force Museum in Cosford, United Kingdom, the Wargaming Education Center at the Tank Museum at Bovington, United Kingdom, and the on-going sponsorship of the USS Iowa, docked in the Port of Los Angeles, California.

Review: VisionTek CryoVenom R9 290

Posted by Donster on: 2014-04-22 18:16:33 in category: Video Card News [ Print ]

By Sandy Bruce @ PureOC

It has been several months since AMD shook up the GPU market a bit with its R9 series of GPUs. Now that the dust has settled there has been time for AMD partners to design better cooling solutions for the Hawaii based GPUs at the top end of the R9 lineup. When the 290 and 290x first released there was a firestorm of complaints surrounding the massive amounts of heat generated and the lack of significant cooling solutions. Basically the reference design cooler was a major flop that actually caused performance loses. The 290 and 290x GPUs were known to throttle down to lower core speeds to stay within the thermal envelope. In some cases, this resulted in a 290 outperforming a 290x in benches or other counter intuitive results… OUCH!

AMD partners proved to be up to the challenge though, releasing GPUs with their custom cooling solutions that offered better heat dissipation without adding to the noise penalty suffered by the reference cooler. This is all fine and dandy, but where does any of this leave the hardcore water cooling enthusiast? It leaves many researching to see which GPU from each manufacturer is and is not compatible with certain water blocks and adding additional cost to an already costly product. One of those OEMs, VisionTek, wanted to lend a hand in this process by taking away all guess work, and even the installation. They are now offering a GPU which comes ready to be incorporated into a custom waco system out of the box. I am happy to introduce the CryoVenom R9 290 LiquidCooled series GPU.

Can this new water-cooling focused product from VisionTek hold its own in this segment of the market? Read on to find out!

Posted by Donster on: 2014-04-17 14:05:09 in category: Action/Action Strategy News [ Print ]

Experience tank warfare like never before with reimagined battle arenas, HD vehicles, and new game mode

Wargaming today announced that Update 9.0: New Frontiers for World of Tanks is now available worldwide.

This addition kicks off the Company’s plans for a massive visual overhaul of World of Tanks throughout 2014, featuring enhanced graphics for all battle arenas, tanks, and in-game objects, high definition models for ten armored vehicles, and an all new Historical Battles game mode.

In New Frontiers, The America M4 Sherman, Soviet T-54, and German Tiger I are among the first ten iconic tanks that appear revamped with high definition models and textures. Some new physics functions, such as turrets being blown off upon the explosion of the ammo rack and realistic suspension behavior in the HD models allow tankers to delve deeper into intense battles.

The new Historical Battles game mode pits enemies against each other in some of World War II’s legendary tank encounters. Tankers will command historically-outfitted vehicles and relive three of history’s iconic battlefields: Operation Spring Awakening, the Battle of Kursk, and the Ardennes Breakthrough.

Charlie Brooker to Appear in Sniper Elite 3

Posted by Donster on: 2014-04-17 13:11:51 in category: First-Person Shooter News [ Print ]

Who Shot Charlie Brooker?

British satirist, screenwriter and broadcaster Charlie Brooker is set to appear in Sniper Elite 3 as a character the general public will be able to shoot in a specially created level. Charlie Brooker, a vocal fan of the tactical World War Two shooter series, was invited to visit games developer Rebellion’s studios to see first-hand how the game was created.

After a tour of Rebellion and 2000AD’s Oxford headquarters, and a hands-on session with Sniper Elite 3, the studio’s Creative Director Jason Kingsley proposed a novel ‘thank you’ to the television star for being a long time champion of the title – the chance to have his likeness, movement and voice appear in the game.

Charlie Brooker took Rebellion’s Sniper Elite 3 team up on the offer of appearing in one of his favourite games and put on a full body Lycra suit covered in tiny balls for an intense motion-capture session to act out the movements of several characters.

Rebellion is keeping quiet on Charlie Brooker’s exact role in Sniper Elite 3 for now, but the games creators have promised it will appeal to Charlie’s dark sense of humour, fuelling speculation he won’t just be the good guy.

An unapologetic gamer and a former video games journalist, Charlie Brooker most recently endeared himself to the gaming community with primetime Channel 4 documentary Videogames Changed the World which featured footage from Rebellion’s award-winning Sniper Elite: V2, a game he described in The Guardian as “The Rolls Royce of sniping games”.

As Rebellion founder and creative director Jason Kingsley explains, having such a high profile fan was too good an opportunity to miss:

“You can buy endorsement all you want, but gamers can tell the difference between a genuine fan and a celeb that is happy to get a payday”

“At one stage it seemed like Charlie mentioned Sniper Elite every few weeks in his Guardian columns and we’re incredibly grateful for his support, so this seemed like the perfect way to say ‘thanks’. It was also a great opportunity to reward our team who have worked so hard to get the game ready for its launch in June and we really appreciate Charlie championing a British-made game series. We had a fun time doing his motion capture scenes and in return have promised to give him one of the first copies of the game in June so he can shoot his character with a sniper rifle to his heart’s content.”

War Thunder Update 1.39 Goes Live

Posted by Donster on: 2014-04-17 12:57:52 in category: Air Combat News [ Print ]

Update 1.39 Also Includes Squadron Battles, New Maps/Missions and Even More New Planes

Gaijin Entertainment has announced that update 1.39 for their WWII MMO mega-hit War Thunder is live. This major update is a milestone for Gaijin Entertainment as they release several new features including support for user generated content, squadron battles, the addition of even more planes, and early access to Ground Forces Expansion.

War Thunder now supports user generated content and players have access to special downloadable tools. From now on users are able to create their own planes, from adding tiny details inside the cockpit to truly personalizing their plane's skin or creating a totally new model. A quick-check system ensures that newly created planes fit within the game's parameters before allowing players to use them on local PC's in custom missions or share them with the community.

Players can go one-step further in the creative process by using a stand-alone maps and missions editor. Players can ingeniously build upon existing maps, using them as a blueprint, or go off on an inspired tangent to devise their own brand of new maps. Players can share as well as test out user generated content via a special area housed within the War Thunder forum. Instructions for the creation of content can be found here.

1.39 also offers Squadron Battles – competitive events for player created factions complete with PvP-rating for squadrons, calculated by the Elo system. In addition, this latest update includes an additional 18 new aircraft, changes in the interface and improvements for player progression.

And last but not least, the update 1.39 will allow players who currently possess codes for the Ground Forces Expansion Closed beta to be the first to play as either a tank or an aircraft 24/7, but not from the very start. gaijin Entertainment will slowly implement Ground Forces Expansion into the update to ensure seamless gameplay.

The new mission called Battle of Kursk is based on the real life historic engagement that took place in July and August 1943 where the Soviets defeated the German strategic offensive, thereby turning the tide on the Eastern Front. In the game, Kursk will provide players with AI-tanks,field artillery and planes fighting alongside real players

Thanks to Greenlight Community we can proudly announce that Uprising 44: The Silent Shadows is going to be release on Steam on 18th of April. With all development team we would like to thank all the gaming community for voting on our game.

It is a story of the Silent Shadows - forerunners of modern day special forces - paratroopers dropped behind enemy lines to organize resistance and use diversionary tactics in the fight against the forces of the Third Reich. An appropriate audio-visual setting combined with cover system (an excellent, proven method of game play), the story-line, and diverse settings ensure a dynamic and enjoyable game not only for players familiar with this type of theme, but also those merely wanting entertainment.
