A big thanks to Doug for setting up this forum dedicated to EF2000/ADF/TAW. With the impending North American release of Eurofighter Typhoon, there's been a resurgence of interest in Total Air War and a number of people have started working on mods for this venerable sim.

The first significant TAW mod that's been released by Manteau allows you to increase your in-game resolution from the standard 800x600 to 1024x768! You can grab this patch from Manteau's site here.

This is just the beginning. Manteau has proven that we have the ability to improve TAW through hex-editing as has been done with great effect with EAW and Falcon4. A number of people at SimHQ are gathering under the organization calling itself the TAW Mod Group to continue developing such modifications. While I applaud their efforts, they have made it clear that this is to be a closed top-down organization, not taking an 'open source' approach which has worked so well with EAW and F4.

I'm determined to start my own independent investigations into how various aspects of TAW can be modified and improved. Furthermore, anything that I find will be published openly on this forum and I encourage all of you out there who are reading this to do the same. In fact, I'd like to take this a step further by seeing what we could do with the Win95 version of EF2000. If anyone can get EF2K to run at 1024x768 (or even 800x600), that would be awesome!

This is not meant to be a flame against the people over at SimHQ. I just think that preserving the viability of TAW and EF2000 as sims should not lay in the hands of a select few.

Ok, good news. The TAW Mod Group has just said that they're going to open up their developments after all. Now we can all work together on this. Ain't life grand?

Surprise, surprise!

Now, if I could just get rid of this WinFont error when I go to fire up TAW, I'll be lauging . . . boy, it's been a while!
