I shot down an aircraft that was declared 'Outlaw' and found out later it must have been a friendly. Who is Outlaw?------------------

Dang, you were faster this time  However to complete this, from the same brevity manual: "Bogey - A radar or visual contact whose identity is unknown." In other words not necessarily a bandit!

Max,I believe the calls go something like this Bogey - there is someone else out there but I got no clue as to who it is. Bandit - there is someone else out there and he May do you harm but I dont really know for sure. Outlaw - there is someone else out there and I'm almost positive that he would like to hurt you...I think Confirmed Hostile - there is someone else out there and he definitely would like to hurt you. I like to get a AWACS call of Outlaw and IFF bar showing unfriendly before firing a missle. I got a "you jackass" call one time after launching a slammer...boy did that make me sick.

Actually, the trick is to have you wingman engage "Attack my Target" : if it s a friendly, your wingman will decline "unable", otherwise it will declare what he is engaging "Engaging MiG26 blahblah ..."
Then tell your wingman to "Rejoin" or he ll go up chasing the hostile....Hope it helps ------------------
