I shot down an aircraft that was declared 'Outlaw' and found out later it must have been a friendly. Who is Outlaw?

"Informative call that a bogey has met a point of origin criteria."

Straight from the real brevity manual.

Dang, you were faster this time

However to complete this, from the same brevity manual:

"Bogey - A radar or visual contact whose identity is unknown."

In other words not necessarily a bandit!
That might explain what happened, don't you think?

Davor.

Max,

I believe the calls go something like this

Bogey - there is someone else out there but I got no clue as to who it is.

Bandit - there is someone else out there and he May do you harm but I dont really know for sure.

Outlaw - there is someone else out there and I'm almost positive that he would like to hurt you...I think

Confirmed Hostile - there is someone else out there and he definitely would like to hurt you.

I like to get a AWACS call of Outlaw and IFF bar showing unfriendly before firing a missle. I got a "you jackass" call one time after launching a slammer...boy did that make me sick.

Thanks for the replies. I think I heard the 'You Jackass' call when I fired on the 'Outlaw' myself.

Bandit is a confirmed hostile... Bogey is unknown contact. Outlaw is unknown but possibly friendly. Simplified English!

MAX,

Agree, the game gets real mad at you when you shoot the "outlaw", best de-select & find a 'bandit' when the declare call results in an outlaw reply.

Bandit = confirmed bad guy
Bogey = unidentified contact
Outlaw = unidentified contact originating from bad guy territory

Zero Niner, out.

Actually, the trick is to have you wingman engage "Attack my Target" : if it s a friendly, your wingman will decline "unable", otherwise it will declare what he is engaging "Engaging MiG26 blahblah ..."
Then tell your wingman to "Rejoin" or he ll go up chasing the hostile....

Hope it helps

If you call AWACS over and over they may eventually change their story and confirm your bogey or outlaw as hostile.
