Okay, here's my problem. I need to have 2 versions of Falcon on my computer. One, with the original files, and another with all the cool add-ons like custom cockpit and sky..etc. However, when I get into the game with all the custom files..the program somehow uses the files in the original version which is installed in another directory. Arrrrggghh!! Help!

You obviously have room for two versions, here's what I recommend. Do one normal install (we'll assume "c:\Microprose\Falcon4"). Install any base patches you want for both versions, i.e. 108us, 108i, etc.

Now make a new folder, say "c:\Microprose\F4mod". Copy everything from the "Falcon4" folder to the "F4mod" folder. Add any further modifications and patches to this version.

To use the modified version, all you need to do is rename the "Falcon4" folder to something like "F4orig", then rename the "F4mod" folder to "Falcon4". You could write a simple batch file to rename the folders back and forth for you. Hope that works for you.

Wonder why you would want to though thats your business.

The graphic changes like sky, napalm etc dont interfere with online play and they, with any .wav`s changed you iether like or you dont. Same goes for cockpit.

As for the various `realism` patches. Takes about 10 seconds to extract either it or a zip of original files into place. So going back and forth is quick and easy.

Running two versions such as 1.07 and 1.08 is a different matter and was very well covered a few days ago on this forum.

JohnUK, How does doing that (unzipping different files into the same install) affect campaigns that are in progress? IE you start a campaign with original files fly a few missions and then switch to DeltaHawk files and later switch back, does this "screw" things up in any way?

Perhaps I should have mentioned that using the method I described above, any campaign or TE created or saved in one version will of course be separate and apart from one used in the other. This includes the logbook.

Good point/question. Only switched once myself in campaign and didnt see any problems though i guess you could expect something to crop up. Mostly play TE on and offline myself.

Think the way to go would be having two campaign folders, renaming to make one active as a file switch is done to suit it. Include your old campaign save in the new folder, play it and see how it goes
