Is there a good reason why everybody starts with the 1940 campaign as a basis, or is it just because we know it works?

I ask because it occurs to me that if we could use 1945 as a basis, the Allies might be able to fly from fields in France and the LW from Germany, without that damn great ditch in the way. This would give a better feel to campaigns that didn't involve crossing a large body of water, such as France 40, the Desert (sorry, Emil, I only just thought of it ) or SE Asia.

Second thought: I am in the process of analysing all the sq**.dat, misn**.dat and camp**.dat files to see which ones might be best suited for turning into new campaigns. Is this a waste of time, ie. has somebody out there already done it?

S! Prune,
Go for it dude. I would like to see you or someone put up a complete 'how to' in order to do the 41-42 time frame with Stab. i read your other post on it. Im very interested, as the only way to get 41/42 is to enable 42TPE and then change planes and dates in game.

Well, I've answered one question already. There aren't any 1945 campaign files. All that happens is that the 1944 files extend into 1945 (and even 1946 if my understanding is correct). Because there's a separate MISN45.DAT file, I thought there must be 1945 versions of the other campaign files too. Oh, well, back to the drawing board.
