I'm so full of questions today, but I kept getting hits on a hurri and there'd be these great bouts of smoke and flame and then the guy'd just fly off. I'd hit him again, same thing. Aren't there damage levels? e.g. so many hits and the guy goes down? I notice I take a few plinks and all of a sudden I'm a smoker.

Hurricanes seem to be kind of tough to kill, but yes, I think that the damage is cumulative even so. I usually concentrate on one area of an aircraft when I'm shooting at it. I've noticed that on bombers especially, it's better to direct fire at one engine or the other. Once you get it smoking, it won't be long until you blow the wing off. Shooting down fighters works the same way. I like to make a target of the tail section, though in my favorite firing position (a rising 70 degree deflection shot) I'll sometimes lead a bit too much and hit the canopy or even the engine, but that's not as good as far as I'm concerned. I much prefer to blow the stab control out and have them lose horizontal stability, than to have to chase around a smoking airplane just to make sure it doesn't wind up on my 6 and get a lucky shot that downs me.

yes there is damage levels. EAW use hit bubbles for the different part of the aircrafts (left aileron, left wing, rudder, entire tail etc.) and each of these have a number of hit points.

I think it was Paulo Morais that said that the way bullet damage worked was that every hit made to a certain "bubble" made a random ammount of damage on that parts hit points. For MG bullets this random number could even be 0, kinda like the bullets pass right through the "paper" hurricane.

I think that it is discovered how both the hit bubbles and the hit points can be changed for the different parts and planes, but so far the damage dealt by bullets is still unlocated in the "X-files"
