Just finished a long career in BOB, Hurricanes, No. 43 Squadron. I've never paid attention to the results of other campaigns, but decided to report these: Started 16 July 1940, Ended 31 Oct 1940 Squadron Kills, 184, Losses, 33 Rank: Flight Lt., no promotions Sorties: 21, Kills: 50 Medals: DFC (2 awards, both for sorties in which I shot down 5 aircraft.), DSO Final score: 8395 Shot down 6 times. Over the side four times, crashlanded twice, once in downtown London. Most victories were against HE111 and JU88 bombers. Two ME109 victories. One flew into my sights and the other was the victim of a high-speed ambush. My two wingies ended the campaign with 12 and 4 victories. The other top scorer in the squadron had 25 kills. No ME110 kills for me. I've done it before, but just couldn't catch them. Flew halfway across England once chasing a JU-88 after it dropped it's bombload. Finally caught up and RAN-OUT-OF-BULLETS !!!!! after one miniscule burst.

Do you mean the mission debrief screens? I have saved tons of those.I had not been able to save the medal screens though. I think I tried to save "one of those telegrams" once, and couldn't get it either. QM ------------------ En boca cerrada, no entran moscas.

Old Guy, Those are respectable career figures. I too just finished a campaign in No.43. I have decided the Hurri is the way to go if one has any hope of winning the VC in the Battle of Britain. It's a more stable gun platform than the Spit, and though it is slow, takes a heck of a lot more damage than the fragile Spitfire (I've had my engine knocked out by a single 7.92 hit in the Spitfire). I haven't kept notes since I started my no-refly policy, since careers are often over after three or four missions, but I can tell you I was forunate enough to win three DFCs, one DSO, and one MC, my first ever in a BoB career where I did not fly across the Channel to seek out ground targets. I had 89 kills and reached Squadron Commander. No bailouts, but was run into once by a Bf110 that knocked out my engine. I landed the plane deadstick on a road. Made two landings in the Channel, which is not too difficult if one remembers to cut the engine before contacting the water. This saves missions as opposed to bailing out, which eats up a mission or two while one is "refitting." Under most circumstances one has to land at home base to get Allied awards, and my MC effort involved landing five miles from Thorney Island (crawl bug-losing power) and driving my plane home--a bit ridiculous but whatever it takes, right. I share your frustration with the Bf110. I managed to knock down a few of them just after AltN, before they built up speed. I knew my chances for a VC were shot when I drew several missions against 110s after the first of October. If they had been Ju88s or even He111s I may have had a shot, but probably not. It is my belief that the British (in EAW) award medals on a cummulative points basis. If one keeps notes one will find a decoration will come about every 1500-2000 points provided one has an excellent mission rating. I have shot down ten aircraft in one mission and received no award only to win one on the following mission with four kills. Careful examination of my notes from past British careers (albiet not BoB) have revealed this general pattern. I believe, however, that there is an element of random numbers in effect here, which is the only logical way to explain why nothing seems to make any sense(with regards to medals). I assume that you started your career as a Flt. Lt., since you mentioned you received no promotions. Starting as Sqd. Commander gives one more control, but I have decided to start as a Warrant Officer because I like the "young whippersnapper" feeling it gives me. I suppose I may have to revert to Sqd. Commander if it appears I'm getting close to the VC. It is unusual to get two DFCs and then a DSO. I almost always get the three DFCs, one DSO, three MCs, then the VC (in '43 and '44 careers). Like getting the Medal of Honor with only one Silver Star, one can also get the VC with one MC, but points totals must be very high, which means ground targets , of which there are none in BoB. Keep flying and keep me posted. I'm starting a new BoB career tonight in another Hurri squadron. See you over the Channel. Reese

Everthing maxed except for normal career length, no shortages or waiting. Also no visual clues except padlock. II/JG26 "Schlageter" 23 July 40 to 30 Oct 40 55 kills, 48 losses 16 sorties, 32 kills Ended with rank of Oberstleutnant IC 1st Class GC KC Score of 7545 Those last 2 to London were tough ones. FWIW, Good Hunting! PS. If the ground handling, engine start & stop sequences, & dashes, were like CFS, this one,IMO, would be the biggest, the best, the most. I still like WBs for FM but I could live with EAW.

After doing several BoBs in Hurris and Spits, I finally hit upon a winning system. I'm running 601 Squadron (Spits) as CO, and I send everyone after the escorts and attack the bombers by myself. The exception is when they're Stukas or Me110s, then it's "target all". Also, when crippled bombers go home early & I'm out of ammo, I send wingmen to finish 'em off. With this system, our kill-loss ratio is extraordinary, & I get much better protection. Because our first 4 sorties were against Stukas (rare good fortune), all pilots' skill & morale went up quickly from lots of easy kills. So far I've only had my engine damaged, haven't had to bail out yet. One belly landing due to shot hydraulics.

Gavin,OK, I wasn't sure which screen. I don't remember if I have managed to get any of those, it has been a while since I had a campaign I wanted to remember . I usually take lots of screen shots of this stuff, but I don't usually keep it when the career is over. I'll check when I get home tonite though and see if it works for me.
