Ok, explain like I am a two year old.

I know what the 3DZ files do but, I thought that these files were not modifiable and all the Skins files I have only have *.TPC files.

-E sent me an email yesterday/Saturday stating that I need to also copy .3DZ files when copying Skins.

Can someone help me out here????

Thanks.

Matt.

Hi Matt!

Those 3DZ files contain the wireframe data of the aircraft. If there are some included to a skin (e. g. Jamie Richards' new Betty), then those 3DZ's are swapped over to a different slot. In this example, the B-26 wireframe model is swapped over to the He-111h slot.

This way (if somebody would at all like to) one could fill up all aircraft slots with different versions of one single plane.

When uninstalling such a skin, one has to remove the additional 3DZ files that came along with the TPCs from the EAW main directory. After that deleting, the "normal" shape of the appropriate aircraft (in this example the He-111h shape) would appear again in that slot.

I hope I could help you some.

Thanks Cord.

So what I should be doing with EAW Stab is copy *.TPC and *.3DZ as well, yes?

Matt.

Hmmm... yeah, well it depends. The only new skins I know of that use this 3DZ swapping thing are that Betty and the skins contained in the add-on MSKINMOD. Oh, and the 1942 - TPE campaign of course.

Well, if the skins' files (TPC and/or 3DZ) are in separate folders until they are copied into the EAW main directory by EAW Stab, then Stab would need the ability to copy those 3DZ files (if there are any), too, and to remove exactly those it copied there again during uninstall of that skin (a logfile would be the solution, I guess).

Hello guys...maybe I can help here, maybe not.

I have many skins to be released that use 3DZ files -- they are essential. I know that Relent's Skins-n-More is being written to be able to handle the 3DZ file problem, since it keeps a registry of which skins have been installed and which files they include.

The 3DZ files for any skin will have the same first few letters as the TPC files (e.g., P109E*.3DZ and P109E*.TPC).

In short, YES, Stab should be able to move both TPC and 3DZ files into and out of the EAW folder. I suggest that you keep your solution simple, i.e., don't worry about whether that'll screw up someone's installation of the 1942 TPE campaign or the Russian skin pack. After all, the Russian skin pack is just a bunch of skins. Dumping the skin pack's files into a folder for Stab to copy from should work fine as long as Stab copies both TPC and 3DZ files.

BTW, Matt, be sure to read my question in the Stab 1.2 release announcement thread.

Also, if you'd like to talk in more detail about how Stab should deal with 3DZ files, you can contact me via email -- I've been speaking with Relent about the problem too.

Thanks Jamie.

I got a (brief)reply from -E as well.

I will cut Version 1.2a of EAW Stab in the next two/three days that will also copy *.3DZ as well as *.TPC files when processing Skins.

Matt.

Does anyone know if the 3dz files affect the size of the "hit box" of an aircraft? All this talk of swapping 3d models has made wonder if it would be possible to cheat online by sticking something small like a v1 in place of your fighter. Please will someone who understands such things better than me reasure me that this is not possible.

No the hitbox size is stored inside the flt file for the aircraft and not directly connected with the 3dz files.
