I was reading what the investigators have learned about the last seconds of Flight 990 based on the data recorder -- it sounds all too familiar:

1. Quick prayer to God
2. Shut off Auto-Pilot
3. Nose down & dive
4. Cut throttle
5. Wait..wait..wait
6. Climb! Pull back as hard as you can!

The only thing missing is "Archer Inbou..<BOOM>".

Seems our backup pilot may have had a Falcon 4.0 flashback.

Your lack of sensitivity is beyond words. How can you make a joke out of 217 people losing their lives in such a tragic and terrifying way? I certainly hope that no one close to any of those who died, reads your post.

This 990 is ******** by the US GOV, you and I both no that either this is just a freak accident or this was a terrorist thing. (Surface to Air Missiles ain't that hard to aim)

I think it is a cover up of some sorts.

Any ever wonder why planes go down in that area? A new triangle or something of the unknown???

Why is it so hard to believe that this could have been an act of religious fanaticism? I'm not saying the co-pilot did it - that seems farfetched, but more likely, what about the possibility that a terrorist passenger came into the cockpit and took out this Gameel el-Batouty guy, and then proceeded to crash the plane himself? I mean, how can they be so sure that Gameel el-Batouty was at the controls and that it was he who said that final prayer? Have you ever actually heard one of those black-box playbacks? Well I have and the sound quality is always atrocious. The idea that you can do a positive voice id on someone using a black box recording is BS for public consumption.

Clam it? You mean, "claim it"?

Well anyway what I'm talking about is this series of documentaries they used to show on Discovery called "Survival in the Sky". They would examine various airline crashes, and they would play back the actual black box recordings. Boy that was a scary show! Nothing more creepy than listening to those final, horrible moments of the crash, the pilots screaming, etc. That was a very grim show. Anyway, I never heard a single black box recording where you would be able to recognize someone by voice with any degree of certainly, even if you knew them. In my opinion anyway. (Not like I'm an expert or something).

My point was it seems suspect to me that the investigators are so sure the voice was of that co-pilot.

On second thought, I take it all back. I'm sure they have outstanding equipment to filter out noise and compare waveforms to determine whose voice it was. Ignore everything I said - there's nothing sillier than speaking authoritatively on something when you don't actually know what the hell you're talking about. Forgive me.

I was one of those who believed that TWA800 was a terrorist missile. But now I find that I was duped by the conspiracy nuts. They were the ones doing all the lying, including Pierre Salinger. If Egypt 990 was a suicide case, it will not be the first time. Singapore A.L. had a similar case only three years ago.

The problem we have assessing these disasters is that we don't have all the evidence. We just get bits and pieces from multiple media sources of dubious integrity. There are lots of opportunists out there who want to make names for themselves by pushing conspiracy theories. We should consider that there have been numerous other airline terriorist incidents (including dozens of hijackings) that have not been covered up. There is no real motivation for the gov't to do so. All the motivation is on the media side to sensationalize these disasters by turning them into daily soap operas.

What is really disgusting is the eternal pity pot the media exploits by focusing on the family's grief, turning these events into three month funerals.

Unless there has been some sort of revolution in AA or SAM missile development recently, I don't think that there is currently a weapon that can sneak onto a plane and switch off the autopilot and shut down the engines.

The cause of the TWA and Swissair crashes were most likely due to faulty wiring. Someone who I'd known for my whole life was killed in the Swissair crash over Nova Scotia so I hope they fix the problem soon.

Mbaxter,
The NTSB has many a voice cockpit recording and hearing agitated pilots is a rarity. I suspect it makes for good tv but personally I'd rather not hear it.
Let the NTSB do its job. If there is something strange it will be discovered. I wish the media didn't speculate over such events and just left it to the pros.

Mbaxter,
PS That's not a dig at you. I just realized it might just have sounded like that.
