I can't seem to figure-out out to return the HIDSS to navigation mode after initialling leaving navigation mode and going into combat mode, turning my radar on. When in combat mode, I hit the ctrl+delete keys but that turns the radar mode off, but doesn't return me to the NAV mode.

You need to unarm weapons, I think the key combination is CTRL-BACKSPACE.
