Rita Hayworth on Life Magazine: 1942: General MacArthur repels the Japanese at Battan. 1943: On this day, as a wartime conservation measure, the sale of pre-sliced bread was prohibited in the United States. 1945: Prime Minister Churchill practices damage control during a speech given in the House of Commons in which he credits the United States for the allied victory in the Battle of the Bulge. British General Montgomery angered the U.S. by claiming that British forces were responible for the win and, in fact, bailed out the Americans. 1945: The German Army launches its second attempt to releive the beseiged city of Budapest from the advancing Red Army. Air operations at this date:1943: Night to the 18th british bombers once again attack Berlin. Almost 400 tons of bombs are dropped on the city. 22 brittish bombers are shot down. Over 100 bombers from Luftwaffe attack London. 6 are shot down. 1945: Allied bombers attack Magdeburg (again), and Kaiseslautern. ------------------ LLv34 Snefens RO, Lentolaivue 34
