Can anyone tell me what framerates I'd get on a PIII 1000 in campaign mode?
I don't know weather to get one now or wait for a P4 1300.

Probably should wait for the P4. I heard the 1ghz IIIs have problems. The 4 should have some better features too.

P.S. I too would like to know if anyone runs F-18 on a 1ghz. There is normally always at least one person on this board that has the fastest thing available but everyone seems to have stopped buying around 800!!

I have found that P3 stops gaining FPS around 800Mh but the Athlon will do better becaus of its floting point advantige of 3 points compaired to only 1 with intel.
with the intel after 800Mh it is up to the video card that you are running.

this has ben my 2 cencs

If I were going to upgrade, I would wait for the new DDR enabled mortherboards (next two months). From what I understand the increase from 100 Mhz to 133 FSB gave a bigger FPS increase than going from a 600 MHZ to 8oo MHZ CPU. Therefore going from 133 MHZ FSB (SDRAM) to 266MHZ(ddram) may yeild a better proformance increase than by going to a 1Ghz CPU...a bang for buck kind of thing.

I'm running a 1GHz Athlon and get about 20 FPS with all the details maxed out except resoultion (800x600). It runs real smooth for the most part, the only choppy times tend to occur when going to an external view to watch a big explosion.
