I`ve got the nodes, links & BMP graphics to work but I am having trouble getting the text in the Campaign Summary in the Status area. I looked over the default campaigns in CBldr and notice the text for one campaign is Cw01.txt. I did a search in F18 and found no such files. I believe it is encrypted in the data folder in one of the 2 cmp files found in there.

I have the text compression tool and have looked at Recluse`s/Bald Eagles site in the builder forum for info. JayP I believe says it works with no problem however he did not add to that.

Does anyone know what would be the proper steps to get the campaign summary page status window to see the text using the text compression tool?
I heard the TCTool is required for this.

Its probably something simple that I am over looking. I created a test text with notepad, just a couple of sentences. I compressed it using the TC Utility and put it in the Campaign data folder with the other 2 that are already there. I tested it in the Campaign builder with both pre compressed & compressed file names. Perhaps I`m not naming the precompressed file properly before compression, Not sure.

Any advice would be appreciated. Everything else in Campaign Builder and Mission Builder are starting to come together. A few conflicts here and there, but it is expected. This is one of the most powerful Builders I have seen. Thanks Matt & CJ for convincing Janes to include it. We are lucky consumers on this one.

I am told the name of the compressed file must be exactly that of the original text files in the Data folder, otherwise it won't work. That will mean backing up your other campaign text documents. I'm still fooling with that one myself.

By the way, any idea why when I build a campaign that I am put in cockpits for other aircraft (escorting, attacking) but not the human controlled F-18? My missions themselves work fine outside the campaign.

I have not come across this. The only thing I can think of is what control did you set for the other aircraft? Well maybe not since they are working for you in standard mission mode.

Anyway I`m still having trouble with the text compression thing, and now I have to force myself to bed. If you find a solution to your AI problem please post the fix.

Thanks for the reply by the way. I`ll try to figure this out tomorrow evening.

The text compression tool can be used to create a new campaign text file. The default one is CTEXTE.CMP in the FA18/CAMPAIGN/DATA folder. All the text files used by the campaign are packed into this file.

In order to create a new one that includes the text for your own campaigns, you first need the text files for the campaign that comes with the game. You should be able to find these in the same place you got the compression tool. If you can't find them, email me and I'll send them to you.

Place your new text files in the same folder as the old text files and MAKECAT.EXE. Run MAKECAT.EXE and select the files you want to compress. The compression tool will then create a new .CMP file containing all the text files you have selected. Rename this file to CTEXTE.CMP and drop it in your CAMPAIGN/DATA folder. You now have text for your new campaign!

Thanks JayP for the info and the offer of the default text files. I did get them with the compression tool.

Looking over your phase 1 campaign text files and Jane`s default files (Ctexte.cmp), they are around 12 - 14 kb`s. When I compress I get 1 or 2 kb`s. I`ve tried to even compress the default texts that came with the compression tool and still only get 1-2 kb`s. I`ve highlighted all the default text files for the compression test.
This would indicate that I`m doing something wrong for the size of the text files to be this low. I`ll work on it some more. Thanks again for your reply.
