Yeah I know I'm being a F/A 18 homer, but who cares? I am just having a blast with this sim. I love the avionics suite and the use of all the different weapons. I wish that the graphics engine was a complete new build and not one based at least in part on F-15 but the explosions sure are sweet anyhow.

So this sim has issues, what sim doesn't? I personally just like the fun factor and at the same time the realism (no, not 100%) that it has. It's a nice balance.

I hope EA doesn't abandon the Baltimore group. Hey does anyone know what Matt and CJ are up to next? Are they working hard on recoding A-10? What about F-15 II? F-15 was my absolute favorite sim until F4 and F/A 18 is growing on me. Let's start some rumors.

i second that Overkill..
i'm currently doing a revise study/play of the sim and just love the avionics suite. I like the RAID and A-A FLIR, Slammer and Walleye, and the sunset skies with Skyfix.. The A-A explosions/sounds are nice too..

As for LB3, yes, that too would be nice but one may not find a lot of new stuff by the 3rd sequel unless its an overhaul. Hmm.. how about Jane's version of the Comanche, or the F-111.. or F117..

Cheers

Or F22 or JSF.

I would love to see an F-15 II. I would love to see the Baltimore guys knock out a sim that allowed you to have fly either the F-15E or the F/A-18E in the same sim.

(Maybe a new Gulf scenario, with the Saudis becoming "bad" somehow and flying the F-15 against the USN... just a thought)

Of course, i would love such a sim, (F-15 II) to have a flyable F-15C, and maybe an IAF based scenario. There could even be a certain poignancy, as the last Squadrons of F-15Cs go out to war, as the F-22 starts to come on stream.

It would be nice to have
* co-op package missions, F-15E strikers, F-15C outriders.
* Front/Back co-op in the F-15E.
* A training mission world (eg. Nellis, where agressor F/A-18Es fly against Blue Team F-15C and F-15Es)
* An EF2000 "Tactcom" style dynamic campaign.
* More than one game world; with the North Cape, The Gulf, and say, Taiwan as game worlds, usable in the mission editor, and as a campaign setting.
* Some more allied and enemy aircraft, fighting the war, eg A-10s, AV-8Bs, EF2000 Typhoons, AH-64s...

But F/A-18 rocks in so many ways; it will keep me busy, especially now that i am deliberately impoverishing myself to purchase a new CPU and mobo and HOTAS...

Another possibility which would be nice would be a Harrier sim of some sort. Y'know, its
* A strike fighter
* It's made by Boeing/MDD
* It represents part of the capability of the third part of the triad of America's airborne military, the USMC.
* would charm the pants off of many potential customers because of the :
1: A-10 colloralation. A spiritual sequel to the cancelled and much awaited A-10 game.
2: Simple avionics, in the AV-8B version, easy to master.
3: Cool stuff like VTOL.
4: Seat of the pants CAS missions, night strike missions, carrier landings, etc, etc.

But basically, both F-15 and F/A-18 are high quality, in-depth sims which display a serious amount of talent on the parts of the designers and a serious amount of love and craftmanship. So whatever the Baltimore team make, I'll buy.

Gavin

A revolution. There is nothing like a religious revolution with a bunch of Iotollas and such to turn a nice bunch of arabs bad.

If they made an A-10 or Harrier sim, I would love them forever.

*drool*

Of course, it's not like I don't already love them, but still...

Actually, If Janes wanted to make me happy all they would have to do is merely update

Fighters Anthology

(update: graphics,FM,and avionics) and I'll be in hog heaven. Fly anything I want with missions to go along with each aircraft.

Just make the campaign dynamic and all missions single and campaign co op capable in multiplayer.

Not too much to ask is it? LOL

ok, ok
Give me the Tomcat or Harrier

In all honesty I would like to see them create a sim with all the goodies and have rotor wing and fixed wing in the same sim.
Such as a Naval aircraft sim where the rotor guys can fly a insertion mission with CH53s/AH1, or fly SAR with HH60 and have the jet jocks provide cover and close air support.
This might be too much to ask, but I don't think it's out of the question.
Perhaps a sim called USMC with CH53/AH1 and FA18C/D and AV8B??? I think this would be a great idea

Seawolf, that sim you mentioned was called "Flying Nightmares", a hardcore/survey sim along the lines of MiG Alley, and it would have allowed you to fly USMC Harriers and SuperCobras, among others, in a dynamic campaign involving Cuba, IIRC.

"Flying Nightmares", like some other 75%-or-more complete sims, suffered the death of a thousand budget cuts at the hands of Eidos, when they got out of the sim business - why waste money on flight sims when you could have those programmers banging out the umpteenth "Gold" version of Boob- oops, I mean Tomb Raider?

But - I swear - I'm NOT bitter!

*sob*

Mannn, I remember Flying Nightmares, I remember downloading and drooling over the screenshots...

I remember waiting with baited breath for the release... which never happened.

They had USMC Harrier and Cobra pilots check the flight model before release. They said it was spot on.

It was using the same engine as Team Apache, so it would have looked beautiful.

It had a strategy element which would have revolutionised the genre.

It had two cool aircraft. It looked great. It used cool sound effects.

*soooobbb*

I had Flying Nightmares on the old 3DO console, in 1995. It was a "real" sim and quite advanced for its time. The only thing which kept me from really appreciating it was the lack of a keyboard. Trying to control everything with just a thumb pad and three (or 5?) buttons was too much.

They did a good job on the old MiG-29 (1993) by using lots of little pop-up menus, much as we have on F-18 for comms. But using thos menus for things like flaps, speedbrake, weapon selction, etc. really slowed down the pace.

Good hunting.
