This is a good feature of the new Stab 3.0, saves one from installing the same ETO terrain again for all 3 main ECAPanel settings (Channel40, 43, 45) for example, with one drawback;

The various Main2.pic for the mainscreens, and Picpl*.pic for the a/c selection screens.

They get copied as well, when in the Terrains folder. Okay you can put them into the Commons folder - but then you have to use the same mainscreen for all 4 seasons. No longer possible to use let's say the Winter screens.

So if you want to use them as well, you still have to install the whole terrain-set and cannot use the "use terrain from other set" feature.

What about the a/c selection screens? They could stay in Common, as the planes don't change. Is the Common of one set also used by another? If, then you would end up with pictures of the '45 default when using '40 or '43, as example. Haven't checked that one closer, as up until now I keep all *.pic files under Terrains...

I know it's a confusingly written post, but I bet you know what I mean...

Hey Stan,

Can you set me straight? What determines what goes into the 'Common' folder, as opposed to a 'Terrain' folder?

Eg - what folder would a mainscreen for Pacific (yours) go into...Common or Terrain?
And what about the plane panel selection?

HAven't been able to figure it out.

Pips, you yourself determine what goes where.

Commons and Terrains work "together" the idea being that in Commons are files which are present in all seasons.

I have to look closer into the effects in the new version.

The Common and Skins folders are not effected by the new change. They are always used for whatever Terrain Set is active.

The Common folder was added in Version 1.3 I think. It was at a request from -E to enable files 'common' to all seasons to be used without having to duplicate them in each Season folder.

Basically, use it for the Main EAW Screen, aircraft selection screen, sound files, etc.

The Terrain folders should be used only for Terrain, airfields etc.

So, to answer Stanley99's question - he is buggered

Matt.

Whatever you mean with I "am buggered", so the Commons will not be used when you use one terrain install for several theatres?

You're hosed.
You're s**t out of luck
You're screwed

And a couple more vulgar versions I won't repeat here The short if it is, it won't work the way you want it to.

I haven't had a chance to play with the new version yet (downloading as soon as I get off work), but when a few of us have a chance to play with it further, we may come up with an elegant solution.

In the mean time, you're buggered, (not to be confused with "bugger off", that has an entirely different meaning)

TQM

PS - How's little Stanley doing?

Careful everybody, admin's censor may be reading all this. I only need to remind you all of a recent thread that was clamped over the name of a BofB pilot whose name could not be used because it also referred to an anatomical component employed in a variation of the very word you are discussing above! Stag will remember the Hurricane skin and the Australian pilot involved!

X-Man, you my biggest fan? Hahahaha any chance you're female???

...I do it the same way as in 2.2b - I keep the .pic files under terrains - when you have 4 seasons, you also have 4 different folder going along with them. Comprende?

This also works fine with version 3.0 - unless you plan to use one set of terrain for different theatres/years - you'd end up with a invasion-striped Mossie screen in let's say Channel40 which is a bit, umm, it wasn't invented then, well, strange. So, if you plan to use one set for different years, welcome to the "buggered" club ...

Matt,

I hate to sound like a "Whimp" but with all the new "Features" in Stab 3.0 are you going to make a Tutorial for 3.0 as you did for the earlier Stab?
I don't know about other people but a Tutorial with all the tricks to using Stab 3.0 would help some of us a lot. I not only use Stab but Skins n More plus playing other sims, like CFS2, WWII Fighters etc. So a tutorial to jog the Old memory would help.

Thanks ............. Hitech
