I agree, Lucky. I don't think that you've turned off all of the "cheat" options in preferences, because landings are indeed quite difficult. I'm no Chuck Yeager, but regardless I have to pull the throttle back a great deal and drop the brakes and half-flaps to slow down enough to make an approach, then drop the flaps all the way as I'm coming in. After making landings in European Air War, I think I'm a little spoiled with low approach-speed landings. Takeoffs aren't too shabby either, especially if you've turned off the Fast Spool-Up option so you have to mind how quickly you feed in more power (a flameout on the runway is, needless to say, rather dangerous ). In regards to graphics, yeah - they're not photorealistic (though I'm running at 640x). Of course, European Air War is still the most popular WWII ETO sim, and its graphics pale in comparison to WWII Fighters. Does that tell you something? At any rate, you're not going to find a sim produced in the last couple years that will allow you to fly F-86s anywhere but in MiG Alley. I wholeheartedly recommend it. (The one thing I agree with you about is the absence of a Padlock Center command; again, I think that something along the lines of EAW's padlock system would be more beneficial. Oh well...) ------------------ -KMHPaladin - "The duty of the fighter pilot is to patrol his area of the sky, and shoot down any enemy fighters in that area. Anything else is rubbish." Zorba: Hey, has anyone tried Nations?? Is it as bad as the reviews say it is?? I haven't tried it because of two words:
1) POWER 2) UP'S Should've gone straight to Sega Dreamcast. That and the fact that the team that worked on it has been gone for months...yet they ship it anyways.

Everybodys got to remember that they are flying a jet and that approach speeds will be much higher than in EAW for example. You've got to start/plan your approach much farther away (kinda hard with that close horizon though), don't wait till the last minute then dive at the runway, come in flatter. And keep your speed UP. The higher speed will help keep you from getting blown around by the wind. Also, if you are throttled back so much that you can't do a go-around you are coming in way too slow and are just asking for trouble! The slow speeds will make the plane hard to control and you also have no margin for error...if you stall, you're dead.Try a less steep approach, then pop your speed brakes and flaps...this will cause a lot of drag and will allow you to use higher throttle settings to keep the engine spooled up...in case you need the power. Happy landings! ------------------ Regards, Doug

I have to say, I've been flying real aircraft for quite a long time, and the takeoff rolls in Mig Alley are very realistic. Have you ever watched a P-80 or F-86 take off before? They take forever to get moving. They use most of the runway in real life. That's why that guy went off the runway in California in his F-86 and plowed into a shopping mall. When he had his flame out, it was already too late to stop the plane. As far as the speed goes, I have to say it looks fine to me, but I'm also running at 1024x768. Maybe that makes that much of a difference. As far as bouncing, maybe you guys bounce your Cessna 152's , but I've done landings in Bellanca Super Vikings and Piper Aztecs, and high performance aircraft don't bounce much. Watch an F-16 land and you will see 0 bounce, much like an F-86. Kind of sounds like you guys haven't been around real aircraft for very long. Sorry to jab you, but I have to correct your inaccuracies. Go take a ride in a 757 or something and count how many times they bounce when they hit the runway - 0 times if you have to ask. -Dan
