Hi all, Since switching to RP4, I'm having one small problem. On about every-other mission I fly, be it TE, campaign, or IA, my screen just "freezes". And it happens randomly, from 1 minute after the start of the mission, to just before landing after completing a mission. All the sound is still there, just a frozen screen. Can anyone help me? Its not THAT big a deal(since I love this sim), but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have the Msvcrt.dll patch applied? What it does is delete the old msvcrt.dll in the falcon4 directory. After reboot,Falcon will use the newer one in the windows/system directory. You might know this already....sorry.

First of all, dont appologize when your trying to help me. I actually deleted the msvcrt.dll file after the installation of F4 as I understood that the 108us patch would install a new msvcrt.dll. Was that correct?
thanks KM

Need more info.. like what gfx card? what cpu?

At a guess: If you are running an Athalon + Geforce+- SBlive! Try disabling "super-bypass" in the BIOS. Solved the problem for me. (if the option isnt in bios, you can get a little utility to help you which is mentioned on www.geforcefaq.com )

Of course if this isnt your setup it will be something else!

I think others have had some success by disabling F4Turbo or lowering their AGP multiplier to normal.

I suspect it is a gfx card hangup of some descripton though.

Most of my customers run into serious glitches using 4x AGP, setting it to 2x fixes their problems. May or may not help you, might give it a try. You do this in your BIOS.

I actually delete that file after 1.08 before installing RP4.0. Because after 1.08 that file is still there. I don't know if 1.08 will put the old one back or not since I have always deleted after 1.08 installed.

Tanks for your reply hanger, I'll give it a shot.By the way, do you think the agp setting would have anything to do with my system crashing on all my novalogic titles? Just wandering.....

Joker,

Everyone has suggested that your problem is a video problem. I would suggest that perhaps you need to re-install your audio drivers or perhaps an upgrade of the drivers would help.

I also have a vortex based sound card (MX300) and it has given me problems from time to time. If you have the dos legacy drivers, try removing them (unless you need dos support). You also don't need to have any autoexec.bat command line references to "set blaster".

Just another thought to get your ship righted!

Good luck,
Tex

The "super bypass" fix is an Athalon only feature so it wont be that.

Take a look at the geforce faq for help with the gfx lockups. I agree that it may be a sound driver problem though. These things are hard to troubleshoot. Expect to spend several days (if not weeks!) trying different things until it gets fixed. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply Tex, you know....,I was wondering about the sound card, have always had soundblasters in the past(and no probs.)Do you think you could explain to me how to remove the dos driver? I know I have to put "REM" in the autoexe.bat file, but im no guru, I need a better desription on exactly what to do. Thanks for any more help you can give me

Thanks Hedgehog, I'm starting to think the sound card is the culprit too. I tried disabling 4x agp, but still got the same results. Waiting on a reply from Tex to give me a better explanation on how to remove the dos drivers for the sound card from my system.
