Hi Pilots!

I have some questions regarding indicated-, true airspeed and max performance turns.
The corner speed range in F2, according to the manual is app. 550-680 km/h, and as I have understood this is indicated?
Therefore so long as I keep my airspeed to app. 600 km/h IAS, I can do maximum performance turns at any altitude?

But I have noticed that the velocity readout in the HUD is different from the analogue indicated speed gauge down in the cockpit, and for a given IAS the HUD velocity readout increases with increasing altitude. So that would make the HUD readout True airspeed?

If i am wrong in my assumptions, would then having app. 600 km/h velocity readout in the HUD to do max performance turns be the correct thing to do?
But with increasing altitudes my IAS would drop in relation to TAS, and would not then my max performance turns suffer at higher altitudes?

Maybe the difference between IAS&TAS is negligible regarding your aircrafts performance when your in a dogfight?

Comments would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The airspeed on the HUD is true airspeed. You need IAS only, so disregard what is written on the HUD.

Corner speed is falsly stated in the manual.
Corner speed the lowest speed required to maintain MAX G.

Corner speed changes with respect to load and altitude. So you need to be experienced and you have to "feel" corner speed.

Here is how you "feel" corner speed. Start with 50% fuel and no weapons for example. Then go 500 m above the ground or sea and go to 900 kmh IAS (at low altitudes IAS = TAS) Then bank 90 degress, pull as hard as you can on the stick and push full after burner. Now, as your plane turns, maintain max G, and watch your speed. If your speed increases and you have already pulled max G, then decrease throttle. The point is to reach some speed, where if you pull MAX G in a break turn, the speed stays the same with full afterburners. This is your corner speed.

Take care

Thank you very much for that information Fixxxer!

I have just started exploring this simulation and I think it is excelent. Just flying around looking out at the landscape, while feeling the power and weight of the aircraft is so good.

So good that I think I have to make myself som testflight missions to explore this aircrafts "flight envelope".

Thanks.

Some performance numbers obtained through experimentation similar to what you've described have been documented at the GRU Mission Master page:

Hope this helps,
