Hey Guys,

I just used this program for the first time, and I have come across a potential problem. I am starting to build a new campaign, a great campaign, btw, and I wanted moving ships... I opened the program, found the .mis file, opened it, and that was that. I went back in the game, eagar to see my task force on the go, and what I got were ships turning in circles and even colliding with one another! Not exactly what I expected. Either my task force is under the command of the 3 stooges, or there lies a deeper problem... any insight?

Hi,

I've used the utility in the past without anything strange happening--although not in the last several weeks so my memory's a little fuzzy.

If I remember correctly, F2's moving ships all head for a point in the ocean about 40-50km SSE of Aloushta. So, if you have them pointing in other directions at the start of the mission, they turn to head in that direction. Since different ship types are moving at different speeds, with differing turn radiuses, etc., there can be collisions.

Is this what you're seeing or do they keep turning 360* circles?

RSoro,

Hmm, that sounds like it makes sense. The ships don't do 360's, but they do start making turns seemingly unecessary. In the mission editor, I placed them all on a heading of 000, due north, and they are arranged as a task force. When I start the mission, however, two ships turn directly into one another, colliding, and other ships break formation, turn due south, then turn around again, following the Kuznetsoz I think in some kind of trail formation. After I take off, the ships start turning again... its weird. I think I'll just have to experiment more, and see exactly what it is they are trying to do. Maybe a trail formation is a more accurate Russian Navy formation. Currently mine is modeled off of U.S CV task groups. Thanks for the response, I'll look into this a little more.

Unfortunately this is one of the things that need fixing...You just have to do some trial and error regarding spreading the ships out until you get a result that is satisfactory.

They tend to fall into formation after their initial twisting and turning..

When I build a mission I always do the ships first for this reason.

Good luck !
