What is the old saying???? Borrow $10,000 and the banks owns you, borrow $1 Million and you own the bank? Seems to be one of the main contributing factors with Germany and Russia.

There's much more to this situation than money. Russia and Germany have mutual respect for each other for quite some time. Russian generals (before WWI) learned from the great Prussian generals and vice versa.
It would be interesting how Germany approaches Russia since it is quite obvious that Germany does not want to allow the United States to 'over expand' NATO. The whole idea of including the Baltic States into NATO is going to cause serious strains on the diplomatic negotiations. I have a feeling that Germany has something else on its international agenda...
