He has an Athlon.

What you can do to increase performance is, enable SuperBypass in your K7PROs BIOS. Also, under hardware monitoring, there should be an option that would allow you to overclock the FSB. However, take into account there are two versions of clock generators on K7PROS. One is the -64CG, and will only allow 100, 120, and 133MHZ. The other cg, is the -110CG, which has the FSB settings of 95, 100-120(in increments of one), and 133.

Another culprit of poor FPS, is bad memory management. Go over to http://www.tweakfiles.net and download MemMax under Memory Files. While we're talkin about memory, make sure you have an adequate swap file. If you don't know how to do this, come back to this board.

Also, make sure you defrag, and scandisk eveyr week...but what's most imperative is doing that BEFORE you install any software. Also...what Alienware might have neglected to do, is supply up to date drivers for your motherboard. AMD has issued newer drivers than what came on my K7PROs disk. Go HERE and pick up BUS master driver version 1.32 and AGP Driver version 1.71.

For a comprehensive system tweaking guide, go to Tweak3D

I surely hope you'll stick with this, and solve the problem. Athlons are a great processor, and AMD is on top of their game right now. CFS2 looks to be a worthy game to try and tweak your system for. I hope I have somewhat managed to help you out.

Paul

claypidgeon,

The AMI Bios is a little more difficult to use than others, but that doesn't mean it's any less effective. TO access the bios, right after you turn on your computer, at the bottom of your screen, it'll say something to the effect of, "hit delete to access BIOS"

Do that, and you should be brought to a blue screen with numbered options. To access the page where you can enable Super Bypass, select the option that includes the word, "chipset". It should be in the left column. First let me know if you can enable super bypass. If not, you may need to update your BIOS. If you can, at the top left hand, Enable the top left option, and then enable Superbypass.

press escape, and you should be returned to the menu. Go into hardware monitor, and under the first column, you should see "100MHZ" highlight that with your arrow key, and then see if you can increase it at all. If it immediately gives you only 120 or 133MHZ, do not proceed. In fact, don't touch the overclock settings, now that I come to think of it.

I hope this helps,
Paul

Claypidgon,

sorry it's taking so long, but go back into the Chipset Options, and Enable Configure Timing By SPD, by pressing enter

after that, you should be able to enable superbypass. by pressing enter

Exit to the main menu by pressing escape, and hit enter on save and exit.

You must enable Configure by Timing FIRST, THEN you can go on and enable Super Bypass.

It's a funky funky thing
