The U. S. Army took some seven million dollars of the American taxpayer’s money, the latest and greatest Unreal engine, GameSpy, HomeLAN’s servers – and unlimited access to the rest of the Army. What did they produce? Is the steam surrounding it from heat or decomposition?

Am I the only one who wonders about the motives of the Army in getting into free MMPOGs?

Good piece.

What's to wonder about? The money came from the recruiting budget. Even if overwieght mouse potatoes can't get into the Army, the game spreads good vibes about the US Army. Not a bad marketing move when you have a spare $7M floating about.

Yeah, I guess I was being disingenuous. Let's say I don't like free MMPOGs being used as a recruiting device. However, the status of the servers is teaching the most basic military skill, queing up in a long line.

The story implied that talking to "all" was the default, but in my experience the default communication is "radio", which is to entire team, while "whisper", hand signals, and global talk are available.

When you're in spectator mode, it's all global.

So when you hit "T" to type something in, it goes only to your own team? If so, why was there a fair amount of such traffic from the other side?

The Whisper command is not listed in the docs in the download, that I could see, nor could I find it in the command cofiguration in the game. Plus, I've heard Opfor whisper. 8(

It's entirely possible I misunderstood something badly, and I'd love to learn how to communicate properly! 8)

Note that the server pack got released today along with a few exploit fixes....

Easy: Ah-ha.... I got it sussed out, and you are correct. My apologies. I'll update the review.
