So, I'm sneakin around on an enemy ridge on Guadalcanal lookin for some arty and naval guns that's givin our normal grunts a poundin on the beaches and around Henderson field, right? Bunkers all over the place. We're in the process of clearin one bunker when we start takin heavy sniper fire. I found the sniper, but not before the Jap version of Carlos Hathcock takes out three out of four of the team. (Thank God for the F-10 reload feature.) So, we're trippin around 'Canal, oh yeah, done been there. So I give the rest of the team the hold command and go slippin off to take the shooter. I look at this ridge for the better part of ten mikes and can't find hide nor har of this guy. Go back and start to clear the bunker. F-10 comes in real handy. So, we're...nevermind. I'm gettin a little frustrated and ticked off about right now. I set up in some rocks so I can observe the ridge line. Nothing, absolutely nadda. So, I let a round fly up the ridge. What do you think I see, not one but two trap doors fly up about 50 meters from each other and two little snipers pop up on the ridge. I almost missed the first one out of complete suprise. I don't remember a game where there were actually spider holes. The more I play, the more I'm hooked. 'Course a medium mg nest made short work of me as I tried to make it back to the team.

Also, some of the one liners in this thing are great. To actually hear some guy say, "Big Yankee devil make big bang-bang on your a$$" in a Brooklyn like accent is just too much.

Sorry folks, just had to share that with yall.

Gunny,

Very cool. I think you are right, could be a first for spider holes in a game. I can't think of any others that modeled those.

You are playing the full retail version of Deadly Dozen II, right?

when you shoot an enemy and once in awhile the do a backwards roll after they take the hit! Hee hee hee!

Hit'em square in the brain pan. I hit one last night and dropped him like a sack of tators. No rolls, no spins, no grabin at wounds like I've seen 'em do, just straight down flat of his back. Reminded me of a tree fallin 'cept in fast motion.

Not as big OpFlash, but still not bad size. I'd have to read the section on mp again, but I believe it supports the usual death match, but, in my honest opinion, co-op is also supported. Not sure how many can get in game, but goin after those arty positions on 'Canal could be interesting. Talk about coordination, it would be a must in this game. Run and gun will work, but you really need to be stealthy in this game.

This is definately a cool game. Looked for it yesterday while I was out and about but never found it. Hopefully it will get here soon. I would definately like to try out the MP aspects with the gang.

Just finished the demo mission. That was alot of fun. Reminds me alot of H&D that we used to play together. Graphics and gameplay are much better though. Looking forward to getting the game now. Hope none of you had to use the F10 key as much as I did!

Shoot Russ, I'm an F-10 God right now. Watch them Japs, they throw Grenades real good. Found that out last night. Lost a man in the process, but they took care of one of those heavy cannons I'm lookin for on 'Canal.

You were right about those guys in the blue suits. They are tough little hombres. Only thing so far I don't like about the game is putting a head shot on an enemy and it not killing them.

Russ, I think the damage model is such that if you're not right on, you get either a miss or flesh wound.

And now that I think of it Russ, you're right about it being much like H&D. The interface is really close. Down to the team make-up and the weapon selection whoya.

Gunny I am the worlds worst squad leader, but for $30 bucks I had to buy it. Besides they have a Guy from Boston, how could I resist. The game looks sweet, so far I am just training, but will start a campaign tonight!

Doh! I was looking at the options tonite. Seems I was playing at the medium level. Funny thing is, it keeps going back to medium after I change it to hard. One problem I have been having is getting the squad to follow me after I have given them the "HOLD" command. I give them the "FOLLOW ME" command, look around, and they are no where to be seen. So I wind up switching between the men to get them where I want them to be.

Buster,

You have to be within a few feet of your men to give them the "Follow" command or any other command for that matter. Mind you, I found that the AI squadmates couldn't follow very well if you lead them into a building with lots of rooms: they tend to try to follow a straight path behind you as they "follow" and can't seem to find the doorways out of individual rooms. In this case, I'd have to TAB to each player to get him out of the building.

Hey, Gunny!
Do your AI squadmates still get stuck inside buildings like they do in the demo?

Yes doug they do, but it also depends on what formation you're in. They seem to be able to figure out a Ranger File, where as they are completely useless in say Echelon in built up areas. I usually just have them wait while I go in and clear a room or a building, that way I don't have the frustration of going to each guy and moving him out so he can get back into formation.

And J, if your a bad squad leader, you'll need that F-10 Key. That will become a way of life for you in the jungles of the South Pacific.

How is the squad command structure compared to Ghost Recon?

Don't know Groucho, never played Ghost Recon. Not many squad commands at all. "Hold", "Follow Me", "Fire at will", "C0oncentrate fire on my target," "Hold fire", and the formation commands which are controlled by pressing the "Q" key until the desired formation is selected. There's about 8-10 different formations or variations thereof modeled. Three main ones I use are Ranger file, Column, and Echelon right/left. Pretty easy to get the hang of.

The one thing I really need to do is go in and re-map the controls. Not impressed with the default key combos.

Yeah your squad you have to be careful with them. Played the first mission got the squad mowed down near the camp. So I had only the medic from Boston left alive to save the day.And with many replays he was able to complete the mission.
