Now that I have this super-computer and can now rent and play DVDs I'd like to take some vid captures. Does anyone know of any programmes, free or otherwise, online oor off, that will enable me to take some vidcaps? There's still some scenes on Gladiator I'd like to analyze, make a nice desktop and for posting.

Thanx.

Sulla,

Albeit low tech, have you tried hitting the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard? This should save whatever image you have on your monitor at that moment. The image will be saved in the computer's memory buffer and you can then open your favourite image editing software and use Ctrl-V or the "Paste" function to transfer the image into it for sizing, cropping, and the like.

I'm not absolutely sure this will work, but it's worth a try. Remember, you can't keep hitting "Print Screen" and have successive images saved---it's a one-off thing. Tedious, but effective in a pinch.

Unfortunately Doug, that usually doesn't work with a hardware playback system. You
need to be using a software system like WinDVD. It has a built in grabber also.

Get it here

It used to be that software based DVD players were too slow, but with the advent
of faster CPU's (1 Ghz. +) and video, they are just as good, if not better, as you can
do grabs with them. Screenies from HW based systems are usually just grey.

WinDVD is shareware, but definately worth their price. Test it and see...
