Just got X-Plane the other day and love it. But for the life of me, I can't find any info on how to use add on planes.

Any info would help. Thanks.

Mark

In the X-Planes directory there's a subdirectory called planes with several of it's own subdirectories (These look to be for housekeeping purposes, but you might want to consider using them). Check this out and it should be pretty self explanitory.

Find the appropriate subdirectory for the plane you want to use (Heavy Metal for big jets, General Aviation for a new Cessna, etc.) and create a new subdirectory inside using the name of the plane you downloaded.

Place the downloaded files inside this new directory with any of the included subdirectories intact.

That's it! Start X-Plane and you should be able to choose your new craft.

No point being pessimistic, it probably won't work anyway...

Sky King,

Thanks for the info. One question though. Do I have to mess with the Airfoils subdirectory?

Thanks,
Mark

I shouldn't think so... Unless you're making your own plane, then I think PlaneMaker does it for you (?)...

Most of the planes I've downloaded come with all the required subdirectories zipped inside. Make sure you unzip to a \temp and the move the appropriate directory into the \planes\* ...
