Noticed Direct X 8 was out. I've been running DX 6 on my voodoo 3 3000. Was afraid to install DX 7 'cause I heard it had bugs when it first came out. Would appreciate any feed back on this. Just d/l'd a demo that requires 7. Thanks & S.
P.S. Appears Microsoft no longer carries DX 7 on its website. Anyone know another possible site?

If you upgrade to DirectX 7.0, the take 7.0a - that's the one without bugs (or no known ones), the version number is:

(4.07.00.0716)

Regarding veriosn 8.0 as far as I know it is still a Beta version, so hands off!!!

Got DirectX 8 and the new Voodoo3 drivers - everything runs OK, no problems so far.

I tried EAW, WW2Fighters, SCGT, Counterstrike.

My system:
P2 400, 256Mb RAM @100MHz, Voodoo 3 2000 o/c @167MHz, SB Live, Win 98 first edition

MigLancer:

Your system looks pretty similar to mine (PII400, V3 3K PCI, 128MB Ram, SB Live Value).

Did you see any noticable improvement of any kind in EAW with the new DX and drivers? Better Framerate? Smoother effects? Anything?

Just wondering if it's worth the trouble.

Thanks in advance.

One of my comps has a PII400, V3, 196MBs RAM and the difference before and after installing the newest V3 drivers and DX8 is very noticable. The Open GL performance and D3D is where I am seeing the biggest improvements with improved framerates and richer, deeper colours.

All in all, finer screen resolutions, better colour, smoother performance and in EAW running in Glide, the aliasing is considerably reduced at 1024X 1280.

I had to enlarge my screen image dimensions with the monitor's controls after installing the new V3 drivers but the resolution is much finer than before, something I didn't think I could improve on.
