You have to switch to "realistic gunnery", otherwise you won't get medals or promotions.

Thanks Stan, but is realistic gunnery the only thing?? How about limited weapons green oponents, etc.

How many airplanes do I have to shoot down in a single missions, once I had 32 B17 and B24's in one flight, but still a nono.

Ooops forgot, yes, limited ammo should be turned off as well. The rest doesn't prevent you from getting Medals or promotions!

I read that to catch more points you need to destroy ground targets on the way back home...

32 Bombers in one Mission! Nahh,

Anyway, IMHO it goes like this

Luftwaffe...Shoot Down Lots of Planes
Allies...Planes and Ground targets.

Yeah, no unlimited ammo and and must use realistic gunnery, I guess you could use arcade..but.... Why?

Best thing I've seen on medals is at Major Lee's Place about winning the Medal of Honor anf the Victoria Cross. Haven't seen anything about Germany. I would like to just survive a german career. No re-flys for me. Sure is easy to make that one deadly mistake, usually I ram a bomber or AA gets me. Good Luck!

Well....it's not really realistic gunnery. From the Readme file for EAW:

Medals & Promotions
It should be noted that you won't be able to obtain any medals or promotions unless the "Unlimited Ammunition" and "Invulnerability" features from the Difficulty menu are turned off.

So if you are using Invulnerable and/or Unlimited Ammo, you will not be able to win a medal or get promoted, no matter how many enemy aircraft you shoot down.

As for winning specific medals, the German ones are awarded strictly on the number of aircraft you have shot down. If I recall it correctly, here are the award requirements:

5 victories=Iron Cross, 2nd Class
10 victories=Iron Cross, 1st Class
25 victories=German Cross
50 victories=Knight's Cross
75 victories=Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves
100 victories=Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords
150 victories=Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds

In addition, there is one other requirement: you will not be awarded a medal unless your mission has been completed. If you receive a "Poor" or a "Terrible" rating, you will not receive your medal/promotion after that mission. However, you WILL receive it as soon as you complete a mission that IS successful.

Also, remember that the victory totals above are for the number of aircraft you have shot down without "Unlimited Ammo" and "Invulnerable".

Winning decorations as an Allied pilot is harder to calculate. Your medal awards are based on a point system, but nobody is quite sure exactly how this is calculated. The best advice I can give is to read the articles written on it by Reese Moore (Sidewinder 062) on Major Lee's website:

Major Lee-----first, enter the hangar. Then click on "EAW Training" in the navbar at the left. Then go to "Earning the Medal of Honor" and "Winning The Victoria Cross in the Battle of Britain". These should offer some explanations of winning decorations in Allied careers.

Finally, all of this assumes that you are talking winning a medal in a career. Medals are not awarded in Single Mission mode.
