Preach it Hartmann!

I wouldn't use the name "Smith&Wesson" in the same sentence with liberty anywmore though. They sold thier soul and defamed a good name.

Yeah, I'll hold a knife to Big Brother's throat and he can hold one to mine, and I'll feel really free.
The right to bear arms is important, perhapse essencial, but corrupt politicians only cause problems because apathetic, ignorant, and fearful people vote them into office.
A lot of things had to go wrong before gun control became such a big issue, maybe we should concentrate on those first.

The right to bear arms in the US is a bit outdated, in this insecure world full of criminals it should be updated somehow. Owning a firearm or a semi-automatic gun just isn't enough to protect one's family against all those criminals just waiting to get a hand on your property. It's time to extend this right to be free to own your own tanks, artillery, and heat-seeking missiles! Maybe a mine-field in the lawn would help as well?

Admit, you have to go with the time, the world is such a insecure place!

Alatriste,
This post is aimed at U.S. citizens. Gun control has become a big issue the last few years. Taking away a right that freed this country is wrong. I did not mean this to hurt someone's feelings. Please accept my apology.

Alatriste, "subject" is a term which is used also in the U.K. ("Queen's subjects" = the people she 'governs') and is not meant offensive, as far as I know.

And Hartmann, if this topic is aimed at U.S. citizens only then please tell so in the topic's title, saves me a click

It is only a matter of time before the citizens of the United States are disarmed. All you need to do is study your world history. All the great civilizations underwent disarmament, followed by massive government corruption and ubuses, and finally the fall of the society. We have enjoyed over 200 years of freedom, we will eventually loose all of it. I just hope it does not occur in my lifetime. Fight for you freedoms for as long as you can.

I said I woudnīt post anything more in this thread, but that wouldnīt be fair to Stan and Hartmann.

Hartmann, I accept that you had no intention to offend anyone (and my own post sounds quite more aggresive that I wanted it to be...). Still, it is quite hard to read that we are slaves and subjects, not citizens, even if it was meant in a joking, light-hearted mood.

Stan, I undestood subject to mean 'someone without rights' in this context, i.e. subject of an absolute king or government.

I donīt wish to enter the minefield of discussing gun control in the U.S. Thatīs your problem and I donīt want to intrude, but the question in every country (we too have this kind of issue in Spain, although not as big in public interest) is not gun control yes/no, but what amount of gun control is desireable. After all, there is no country that allows you to buy a 155mmm campaign howitzer, or a heavy AA machinegun (well, you CAN in some countries, but still is against the laws, even in them).
