1) Can't come up with snappy on-line handle.2) Has problem figuring out which part of the headset to talk into while running Roger Wilko. 3) Human OPFOR does not fly straight and level long enought for him. 4) Just plain chicken. ------------------ Check six & aim for the cockpit.

Wow, 3 cents US, that's like a dinner out there in Six Flags over the Tundra isn't it?I will leave you ner-do-wells to your own devices with the wise words of Joseph Heller... "There was only one catch and that was Catch 22, which specified that a concern for one's own safety in the face of dangers that were real and immediate was the process of a rational mind. Orr was crazy and could be grounded. All he had to do was ask; as soon as he did he would no longer be crazy and would have to fly more missions. Orr would be crazy to fly more missions and sane if he didn't, but if he was sane he had to fly them. If he flew them he was crazy and didn't have to; but if he didn't want to he was sane and had to. Yossarian was moved very deeply by the absolute simplicity of this clause Catch-22 and let out a respectful whistle." "That's some catch that Catch-22," he observed. "It's the best there is," Doc Daneeka agreed. You swine have left me with no choice but to take up cyber-arms to put an end to this madness. Gird yourselves, this will not be pretty...

It looks a bit like the StG 58 but it isn't one. And the StG 58 is surely not the "finest" - in the Austrian army they call it "Hieb-, Stich- und Wurfwaffe" (ummm... "Hitting-, Stabbing- and Throwing-weapon" am bad at translations) - so you have an idea now... I think you refer to the StG 77, which is in use by the Australian Army, and the South African one, as well as the Austrian. Stan ------------------ 'Tis but a scratch. Your arm's off!!! Spin, I'll have something on the way shortly. For all the new-found FAL afficianadios, all of you are right in a wrong sort of way. DSA arms in the past marketed re-manufactured FALs for sale (due to the restriction on the number of foreign parts allowed on "military style" rifles in the states) and is now in the process of marketing an almost exclusively, domestically produced FAL at this time. The FAL pictured sports StG 58 style handguards, rear sight, buttstock, and bipod cut barrel. However, the lower reciever is either an L1 or R1 varient, (look at the horizontal take-down lever at the rear of the reciever) which is the type used by the commonwealth countries. The weapon in question is a hybrid. As far as the StG-58 being amongst the finest FAL varients ever produced, this is pretty much a given. Steyr manufactured them under FN license and the quality was second to none. Their fit and finish, their hammer forged barrels and the quality of workmanship are far and beyond what you will see if you pick up an R1 varient. Stan, I'm not sure what you are talking about unless it's the StG AUG (or maybe the problems the Brits had with their new Bullpups that caused them to reissue their FALs to some units during Desert Storm), chambered for 5.56 NATO, which I believe is current issue with the Austrian army. I doubt any trooper that has his head out of his rectum ever had a bad thing to say about the StG 58. The day of the battle rifle (at least as far as modern armies with adaquate air and arty support goes) has come and gone, replaced by the lighterweight, and greater select-fire capabilities of the modern assault rifle. I am referring to the 'finest' of the Steyr rifles, this one: And about the StG 58, you never heard an Austrian trooper talking about it... shot with it, cleaned it, put it to pieces and back together again yadda yadda yadda... But fortunately we never had to use it in combat! Stan ------------------ 'Tis but a scratch. Your arm's off!!! No it isn't Look, you stupid bastard, you've got no arms left. Yes I have. Look! Yep, the AUG... Ever seen that movie, "Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man"? Good Saturday afternoon flick, the bad guy thugs have these big black armor/leather trenchcoats, and they all carry AUG's. My friend Liz thought it was the coolest thing she'd ever seen in a movie. Not sure what an StG 58 is, I'm guessing that's the numerical designation for the FAL? The day of the Battle Rifle might be gone, but I'd still feel better sending a .308 Winchester downrange if I was in a tight spot. My dad shot a prarie dog with a .223 (aka 5.56mm) once and it didn't kill the damned thing. I don't care what pseudo-science is expounded about tumbling bullets and wounding soldiers to tie down the bad guy's medics, I'd rather have that extra edge of power... On the other hand, this is entirely armchair speculation, as I have never been in a position to kill someone with either round. I would say that's a good thing.

Majesty, I couldn't agree with you more. Make no mistake, the 7.62/.308 round is the way to go and some may argue the merits of the M1A/M14 (better sights, better inherent accuracy), the AR-10 (although I'm not a big fan of the Stoner gas system) and the G-3/CETME (why anybody prefers the G-3 is beyond me, developed in response to the belgians who told the germans to stick it up their tuetonic butts, a little leftover hostility from those third reich days)...But the FAL is The Right Arm of the Free World (Ask the 90 countries that adopted it as their service arm). Everybody has opinions, but the majority of those with informed opinions will opt for the FAL.The StG 58 is nothing more than an FAL varient...It is an FAL, it's just the Austrians adopted different nomenclature to designate their rifle. In fact, the early StGs were built by Fabrique Nationale until Steyr got geared up to produce the StG. Anyway, the day of the battle rifle has gone because the role of the rifle on the modern battlefield has changed. It's not a deficiency of any sort with the weapon or the battle rifle concept, it's due to the change in the role that the rifle is supposed to play today. The flip side is, if you don't have 21st century indirect fire capabilities (ie. air and arty support) you want that battle rifle, the 5.56 stuff can stay at home. Yoss's fetish with guns is a reflection of the fact that he seems to be lacking something.Too bad he can't fly, but there again most chickens can't. Yoss - Kali, be there you ex-lawn dart!!!!! ------------------ Check six & aim for the cockpit.

Umm sorry, raptor, maybe we should have discussed those rifles in another thread...Where we've been? Ah #12 - here is #13 Because Stan needs up to 18 planes in one mayhem and thus HQ has none left now for Yoss... Stan ------------------ 'Tis but a scratch. Your arm's off!!!
