Hehe I like the congrats their page gives you after you vote:
"YOU DID IT! You cast your vote correctly!
You must not be from Florida! Thanks for voting. Check back on Dec. 18 after we tabulate all the votes, and barring any appeals, we will announce the winners of the Gamer's Choice Award in the Simulation category."

My vote can be bought. I'll lobby for any sim you want, just as so long as it interrupts the democratic process. As Marx suggested, the aggregated presence of democracy/capitalism is often antithetical to the arts. Ever wonder why hardcore sims often don't reap the revenues as the Microsoft sim lites? Perhaps because they don't attempt to appeal to the lowest common denominator. You can never go broke if you do so I'm afraid that a talented sim like Steel Beasts will never achieve parity with the more enfranchised commercial efforts which have the war chests to produce really fancy graphics that hook buyers in at the retail level. And quite often, I see Steel Beasts mentioned as strategy game in magazines and catalogs while forsaking the simulation element. If I didn't know any better, I would think that Steel Beasts is a modern alternative to Combat Mission from those indications.

There certainly is a strong strategy element in it (if we replace the word "strategy" by "tactics"). The absence of a hex grid and a high level of abstraction doesn't change that...
