What resolution do you find the best? Is higher always better? I can go to 1280x1024.

Resolution changes the FOV too.
I run 800x600, because the field of view is the largest my little machine can handle (PII/350).
1024x768 runs good but is too tight, 1152x864 and over are slowing the game.
Maybe 1600x1200 would be the best, if it gives the same FOV than 800x600.

If someone has a Voodoo5 with anti-aliasing, I would be curious to know if it gives good results with EAW.

1152x864.

Good balance between FPS and detail for my P-III 560Mhz and GeForce 256 at 150Mhz core and 175Mhz SDRAM in a 17" monitor.

1280x1024, I like the fov, and you see far off planes as single pixels.

I use 1024x768 off-line and 640x480 on-line to reduce the burden on the phone line

Top Choice: 1280 x 1024

Second Choice: 800 x 600

To me 800 x 600 doesn't really offer a great deal of graphics improvement over the default 640 x 480, but the Field of View is vastly superior to any other resolution (except for 1600 x 1200, which is said to have the same FoV---but my monitor also only goes to 1280 x 1024, so I can't check it out myself). Again, this is just MY opinion, but 1024 x 768 is the first of the true "high-res" settings. Things look much better than the default or 800 x 600. Unfortunately, the FoV is too small---much smaller than the default; and small enough to hamper gameplay. As a result, my preference is for 1280 x 1024, which provides crisp resolution and has a wider FoV than the default.

I'm running this on a 200Mhz Pentium with a Voodoo 3-2000 PCI and 96MB RAM. In order to get a decent framerate, I have to turn down some graphics settings. "Show Prop in Cockpit" definitely must go. I used to set "Ground Object Detail" to "Low", and this helped quite a bit. However, I've found that with HarryM's WindmillKill, I have less problems and can leave it set to "Medium". The only time framerates seem to get jumpy is when I have that old framerate-killer, a screenful of bombers.

For the Voodoo 5, I don't have one, but according to those who have tried EAW with a V5, 800 x 600 with FSAA gives the same kind of picture that 1280 x 1024 does on an older card! The screenshots they've posted seem to support this.

Does resolution really affect bandwidth used when playing? I wouldn't imagine that the packets contain pixels, but geometric data instead.

1024x768 online. Maybe that's why I am always clueless about what is going on around me and feel it necessary to keep my opponent's in my forward view.

I would love to do 1600x1200, but then I wouldn't be able to read the HUD. I wish someone would come up with a HUD font size add-on/patch.

Running an AMD 800 Mhz, Voodoo 5. What screen setting would give me the largest viewing area? I'm running 1024x768 currently.

1280x1024 for sure.

It's a s high as my 17" monitor will go, but I think it offers the best compromise between image quality and FOV.

At 12x10, you can see planes much more clearly at longer ranges than at 800x600. As a result, I've been able to wean myself almost completely off of the targeting/range indicators, and for me that has boosted the "immersion factor" immeasurably.

(Also, my gunsights look really good at that resolution... )

Good luck!

800x600 right now. 1024x768 reduces the field of vision too much for me. Makes me feel like my face is pressed against the cockpit glass. 1600x1200 looks great on my 19-inch Trinitron but the damn HUD is so small I can't read it. I know, I know, real men don't use HUDs.

Wouldn't it be possible for some of the talented artists here to create larger (HUD) fonts for the 1600x1200 resolution, or is that impractical?

Will 1280x1024 give me my best FOV? I do not think that my monitor is capable of 1600x1200.

640= stock FOV
800 and 1600= widest
1024=most narrow
1280=wider than 1024, narrower than 800 or 1600

I just upgraded my whole computer:
Asus P3V4X motherboard, PIII at 800 Mhz,
Elsa Gladiac 64 Mb (Geforce2 GTS), 256 Mb Ram.

I had been using 1024 x 768. Tried 1600 x 1200 for the first time last night on my new monitor. WOW! (And I though my previous upgrade to a Rage Fury was good...)

Of course, I had to sell my mother, but.....

1280 x 1024. The highest my 17" monitor goes.

1600x1200 on a 19" off-line looks so sweet.
large FOV with added frenel lens.
