I doubt it. MS doesn't patch their flight sims unless there is a very serious problem that they can go in and fix real quick. There is no money to be made assigning a team of programmers and testers releasing patches. Which is one reason MS is doing much better in sim business than the other companies.
Another reason why you won't see a patch is it would be a technical support nightmare for MS. Think about it, they have released all sorts of tools (SDK) where the end user can change everything from scenery, to adding new planes and panels. Not to mention all the changes we have all made to our .cfg file. Of course MS doesn't offer support on any of this, but if they release a patch they would put themselves in a precarious position of supporting this, even indirectly. I can hear the support lines ringing off the hook with the "I installed your patch and now my add-on panel/cockpit/gunsight/scenery/flight model/sounds/aircraft is hosed, now what are you going to do about it?" I read a IT report where the average support call cost a company anywhere from $50-$250 a call. IMO it would be a financial disaster for MS to release a patch. BTW how many patches were released on FS98/FS2K/CFS1 (or any other product where they released the SDK) to fix gameplay issues? KJ [This message has been edited by NonCon (edited 11-22-2000).]

I think that MS will put out a patch for CFS2!Now, having said that, consider this.... You hear that MS has announced a new FS called CFS3 to be introduced soon!! But you were a purchaser of CFS2, a FS that was published and never supported even with a single patch for major problems!!!! What would you think about buying CFS3??? So, there is a short term, and a long term business impact to NOT supporting a product...and if MS wants to remain in the FS business, they will patch CFS2, like they patched FS2000 !!!! (and recall how quickly and suprisingly they first FS2000 patch came out !!!). Food For Thought === BB ===

But there was an immediate problem with FS2000 that needed fixing - the frame rates, even on top end machines, were poor (and even on the "recommended" spec, more or less unflyable). The gauge fix that improved that marginally was the heart of the patch, and aircraft shadows (why the hell did they leave those out in the first place ?) were an afterthought. The same just isn't true of CFS 2. Yes, we know it needs one, but MS hasn't received multiple howls of e-mailed anguish from Joe Public. CFS 3 ? Like always, I will judge on it's merits - being British I'll get a month of reading what the North American chappies think of it before I can get my hands on it. But for me, lack of support is not an issue. I am a big MiG Alley fan, and believe it to be a vastly superior product over CFS 2 in all respects bar eye candy. BUT it was bugged on release, and a large percentage of buyers (including me) had one hell of a time getting it to run correctly. That just hasn't been true of any of the MS sims.

Good point, the patch for CFS1 was CFS2, the patch for CFS2 is CFS3. This solves the problem I mentioned earlier of getting $$$ for a patch. MS just calls their patches "new releases". KJ
