Wow!Aussies crawling out of the woodwork!. I went to a talk at the local branch of the Military Historical Society about 5 years ago. The main speaker was one of the Coastwatchers (can't remember the name of the Islands he operated in, N. Papua somewhere I think). He described an operation that he was involved in. The Japanese garrison on one island was stationed at the end of a long, wide valley that lead down to the ocean, facing east. Every Saturday morning at the same time (just after sunrise) they would have a Parade and inspection. After observing this for a few weeks to establish a solid patern they radioed a report in. A few days later they were told to observe the garrison the next Saturay morning. Sure enough the parade started at the normal time. About 5 min later they saw 6 Beaufighters in 2 V's of 3 flying at wave-top height and wingtip to wingtip come in up the valley with the sun at their back. They opened up with everything they had. Apparently the Japanese presence on that particular island was severly reduced for quite a while. Talk about "Whispering Death". ------------------------------------------ Stonewall
