I've been reading the posts and can't quite make up my mind about CFS2. What previous simulation does it compare best with, EAW, WWII Fighters, SDOE, WarBirds? I do not own CFS. Since I am an air-to-ground kind of a guy, what ground targets are available in the missions, other than ships that is? The island screen shots that I have seen so far indicate all jungle. Anyone got a screen of an enemy airbase they could post? Can you select individual bombs or do they all drop at once? Are their torpedos simulated for both sides? Thanks! Any insight is appreciated.

I do not own CFS. From your list I've only played EAW and WWII Fighters, but I'd say it is sort of a mix of those two (and, of course, CFS): it has the immersiveness of EAW and the better graphics of WWII Fighters. It also has bigger furballs than WWII Fighters, more inline with EAW.

Lots of ground targets. So far I've seen the usual cast of characters: pill-boxes, tents, hangers, oil drums, parked aircraft, etc. In this sense, it reminds me of Red Baron II, only more detailed

Sorry. Can't help you there, but I will say that the airfields to seem pretty detailed.

All at once as far as I can tell. Rockets, however, seem selectable only in pairs.
Are their torpedos simulated for both sides?
Torpedos? Rate of fire on a torpedo is kinda slow, isn't it?
Thanks! Any insight is appreciated.
Hope that helps a little. Good Hunting!

Speedbrake - I can't believe you haven't already picked up this gem. But then your superlative JF/A-18 custom missions I'm sure keep you busy! -My humble annotations: What previous simulation does it compare best with, EAW, WWII Fighters, SDOE, WarBirds? I do not own CFS. -It has the flight physics of Warbirds, with the graphics of WWII Fighters, and the immersion of EAW (Pacific tho' of course). Alas it doesn't have the head bob, prop and tracers of SDOE. Since I am an air-to-ground kind of a guy, what ground targets are available in the missions, other than ships that is? -There are no air to mud in the stand alone missions, however a good amount in the branching campaigns. I'm sure talented mission builders (such as you) will remedy post haste - actually some good ones already; I'll dig out the site. The island screen shots that I have seen so far indicate all jungle. Anyone got a screen of an enemy airbase they could post? -defer to others Can you select individual bombs or do they all drop at once? -all at once (generally two max anyway) Are their torpedos simulated for both sides? -Not sure about the Japenese, but using AirBudda's enabling of AI a/c (e.g. Avenger, Devastator) the US can. Really cool!! edit: pertinent sites: http://thehangar.dogfighter.com/CFS_Planes.htm http://hometown.aol.com/warspite2/cfs2wmsp.html [This message has been edited by Bill Hewett (edited 10-24-2000).]

Thanks for the inputs guys!Hi Bill, yea, I'm a little late getting on-board with CFS2. Thanks for the website URLs - I downloaded a bunch of stuff this morning. I've been very busy what with all the new add-ons for SDOE almost a new aircraft a week lately. I've also been helping to beta test the new Jane's F/A-18 campaign that Matt Wagner is writing, three phases. These missions are not for the whimpy as they are very realistic (Hornit's inputs) and require external tanks and refueling. Then to I've been flying the ultimate air-to-ground flights in the Comanche and Apache helicopters in EECH and its upgrade to Apache-Havoc. Short of a new A-10 simulation the heilos are great on full realism. My hard drive is full of simulations - I've enen had to download a couple I didn't fly that often.
