I'm kinda curious about the groups perceptions of what an acceptable frame rate is?In "shooters" the minimum is usually 30fps. Anything lower is a loser. Also, I'm wondering which view you CFS2 folks are using. If I go to HUD only view I can get 40-50fps at 1600x1200x32. But, if I turn the cockpit that slips to 35-10fps depending on what's in front of my nose. One more comment; this game is fun! We should probably worry less about maxing out the resolution/options/eye-candy and more on greasing the bad guys. Ivanmoe

I've got a p3-600e running as an p3-800eb. My memory is Mushkin PC133 CAS2. My video card is a Pr2-64 w/det6.31 drivers in Win 98.If I crank up the resolution to 1600x1200x32, the game slows way down in the 2d cockpit (maybe 10fps). Detail slider is at "6". Do you guys actually fight with the 2d cockpit turned on? The panel take up half the screen. When I fly, I "look" out the plexiglass and "glance" at the instruments. This is a great game if you love aviation/warbirds!!!!!!!!! Ivanmoe

In flight sims, because of the closure speeds, anything less than 40 is terrible. If you are head to head with a plane, both going 300mph (not kts) that is 880 feet per second closure rate, a little less than half as fast as a bullet... Have you ever seen a video tape of a bullet in flight? In jet sims, you need at least 55-60 frames, in prop sims, 45 is smooth. Alot can change in that final 0.3 seconds, and you only get a couple peeks at it. Theatrical frame rate (film) 25fps, and you can definately see that it sucks, say.. if Jaws *JUMPS!* out of the water to eat Cp. Quint. Video is 30frames non drop, and you can see that it isn't really that smooth either. (try slow-mo advance, a person walking covers about 2 feet between frames @ 3 meters) Most people can detect frame density changes up to about 80 fps, and after that, it's just real nice. Pasha

Oh, sorry..As much ram as you can eat, is the order of the day, and at todays prices for PC133 ($128Mb $79) get a load. The reason some cards perform better at high res, is fill rate not being the bottleneck. Framerate is all about arc-width and/or angular acceleration or PROPER MOTION.However, FPS is all moot past the monitor's refresh rate, after that frame rate is truncated. So the most you'll ever experience (even though you can't really see it, is around 85 FPS. That's not to say pushing theoretical FPS past this truncated max is not good. . .it is, one always wants that poly crunching power for those moments with intense screenload.
