Fist I would reccommend that you stick with DX8.1.

Before I installed it, much choppy. After much better.

Second, use OpenGL, that also seems to give better performance.

Third, the following are the OpenGL settings that Zhukie talked me thru. These made a BIG difference. Make sure you are using 23.11 drivers.

Do the desktop properties thing, advanced settings.........

Turned on:

Enable buffer region extension
Allow the duel planes exstention to use local video memory
Use fast linear-mipmap-linear filtering

Default color depth for textures : Always use 16bbb
Buffer flipping mode: Use Page Flip
Virtical Sync: Always off
Arisotropic Flitering: Disabled

Use 30 Mb of system memory for textures in PCI Mode. (Zhukie had recommended 62Mb, but I have only 256Mb RAm so the system reset this to 30. I'll reset it when I upgrade the RAM shortly.)

Turned off Antialasing

Now I still have some freeze on high graphics moments, but MUCH less than before. I think some of it is due to sound issues now. That's where I'll be tweeking today.

Good Luck

Yeah...saw that. I tried the S3CT..er..whatever thingme and it looked real good...but that was when it started locking up in external views. I just figured it was my system being a little dated. (MoBo) BTW I tried DX8.1 again and 3DMark 2001 wouldn't even run this time. Must be a corrupted download??? Worked before. Thank goodness the DX Eradicator seems to be working so I can at least reload 8.0 off the game disc.

Ok, keep trying the 8.1.......that was one of the things that made a HUGE difference.

Hey Mane
What drivers were you using before the 23.11's? I was using the 21.81's and when I installed the 23.11's, my fps and my score dropped on 3dmark 2001. I haven't had time to try it out on IL2 yet. Just wondered if IL2 would react the same way that 3dmark 2001 did.
