I'm so backlogged right now I can't even properly evaluate all the patches and add-ons...yet.

But my question is this: has anyone played the whole campaign, with realism above 85 (and really should be at least 90) without getting killed? Seriously.
Has anyone done the entire campaign with just one pilot persona? I mean you could get blasted and limp home, or even punch out and get rescued. I personally haven't been rescued but...
I guess I'll have to qualify it further. Let's say this game is hyperUNrealistic in terms of DPRK readiness and tenacity. They fight like hurricanes and they never seem to deplete. Has anyone done the campaign without dying AND without rejecting a mission outcome? Be honest now. Also, what's the average percentage of losses to US fighter squadrons? 25%? 50%? I'm interested to hear responses. If you consider that YOU are supposed to be the superhero of the war, then mission outcome rejection has a logic to it. On the other hand, a really well designed game would have you getting zapped but limping home or bailing/rescued several times. The "getting annihilated by a swarm of Su-37 SuperFlankers" scenario should only happen perhaps a half dozen times throughout the campaign. And it should still be a situation that with practice and planning you can negotiate a successful outcome: survive.
Just want some comments on optimum play balance.

I figure, fly a dynamic campaign evolving over a 5 to 10 day period. 25 to 50 missions.
Your skills in planning and evasion should bring rewards. You should meet "Colonel Tomb" a couple of times, but with practice you should be able to defeat him and his numerous minions.

And didn't Flying Fortress crews have survival rates (for the whole war) of 80+%?
If I am wrong, please educate me. Thanks.

I don't think you can compare the survival rates of real world pilots to sim pilots because of the exagerated sortie rates in F4. In your post you mention flying 25-50 missions in 5-10 days. That's no less than 5 missions a day and probably more. Obviously fatigue isn't a factor like it is in the real world, but taking on the toughest missions every time and looking for trouble, compounded with the fact that the more missions you fly, the greater your chance of being shot down, and your looking at some pretty steep odds. I've never done it and can't say it's realistic to think that I ever will unless I limit myself to 2 missions a day flying barcaps behind the flot. You may survive the campaign doing this but you will not win.

I've flown two campaigns. I bailed out of the first one, after I realized I had no hope of winning, (chose the hardest campaign, on the hardest settings). On my current campaign, I'm flying 100% realism. AI/ADA set to Ace, challenge set to veteran. I have ~120 missions completed. I've been shot down 19 times. Only 2 of those was I unable to punch out. I'm sitting at a rank of Captain. It would be higher if it weren't for the 4 or 5 courtmartials, for various reasons.

Well the campaign is a simulation of a war with NK. Obviously we start out at a disadvantage, unless we play on beginner mode. I think the idea was for the campaign to be a real challenge and one that would keep someone interested in the sim for a long time. I seriously doubt that the DPRK could generate half of the sorties that are shown in the campaign. F4 would have us believe that they are capable of matching or passing the USAF in sortie generation rate. Another pretty obvious comparison between real and the game (guess that's what I am doing ), is the presence of all of these ground troops and the lack of presence of major US reinforcements. This implies that the US intelligence has been on vacation and was totally unaware that a major invasion had begun.
I guess if we were to set up a campaign where the force levels were actual and the types and numbers of aircraft for each side were accurate, then the campaign probably wouldn't be "dynamic" at least from a flying standpoint. We would be watching B-52s launching CALCMs,USN ships & subs doing the Tomahawk thing, F-117s dropping LGBs and B-2s dropping JDAMs. We'd be flying SEAD(Misawa) or dropping LGBs (Kunsan/Osan)(but not both) and maybe flying a little CAP.

The campaign area of F4 is not ideal but I enjoy the challenge of it. I have won two with Pilot settings of 100% (the only way to fly)and campaign at cadet and veteran. I also started several and messed around with the piority settings to see what would happen. I usually let the computer fly to waypoint 2 or 3 then take over till landing.
I am currently a Captain with a 4.5 or so pilot rating. I've learned to take out the airports as top priority (patch 1.08, so no rebuilds)HA HA..
